Default RTR have to reverse twice to engage it?

My buddy got an RTR ax10 and he says he has to push reverse once to get it to brake, and a second time to get it to go into reverse. That just seems stupid to me because when you need reverse you dont have time to double hit the trigger before you want it to engage. Is there a way to change this setting that you guys know of?

I am not familiar with that ESC but I know some ESCs that have this feature can have it eliminated through setup. check the setup instructions. And on the note of stupidity: It is meant to help save the motor and drivetrain (mostly the drivetrain) from quick throttle changes from positive to negative throttle. But yes it is stupid unless you are a stupid driver and hammering the throttle and then hammering reverse all the time hahaha. But honestly if a truck can't handle that kind of stress from the motor, I don't know how well it would hold up under load on the rocks!

Anyways long story short: check instructions for alternate settings. If that doesn't help, and it still is a bother, invest in a nice esc.

Breaks are nice when you are racing.... much as a rock racer would do.

I have to agree that the electronics are very basic in that kit. Upgrade to a dynamite 12t for $40.00. He will see a much improved rig!!

Tell him to sack up and get a Mamba Max, or Sidewinder.
He won't ever have to buy another ESC.

Yes that's not a feature that a lot of experienced crawlers would accept. However, at our last comp a new guy showed up and amazed us all with is ability to take advantage of that break. A lot of us that run the novak rooster crawler, know that 90% drag break is not enough for some descents. And before we attempt one you'll see us knocking back on the trim to activate a stronger break. Anyway this new guy just crawled straight through a descent as if it was no challenge at all. If that coarse had been a timed one he would have had an advantage over a lot of us.

I would say that if you're on a budget and can't go out to buy a better esc, then practice and learn to take advantage of that feature.
