Strengthening the stock driveshaft I'm trying an experiment after seeing how my stock driveshaft started to to twist after just a few runs.It seems that the splined male shaft is too weak and twists easily.Figured I would try this before upgrading the shafts. All I did was cut off a female end of an extra shaft( THANKS TANIS!) and slid it onto the male section. Before installing the piece I cut I measured to see how long it needed to be.I wanted about a 1/8" of space between the two shafts. After figuring out how long they needed to be I CA'd in place on the male shaft. Hopefully this will be beefy enough to keep them from twisting. My next mod is to safety wire around the yokes so that they don't pop off.Just have to find some wire now. Pic #1 shows the stock shaft on the left and the modded one on the right. Pic #2 is the modded shaft. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/DSCN2467.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...e/DSCN2468.jpg |
Just go pede shafts, the ears on the Axial shafts are to long and allows the shafts to poop off easy. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJH85&P=7 |

Heck, go to maxx shafts. I stuffed them under my rig this weekend and I'm really happier. |
Man drive shafts popping off are super anoying. Max them suckers and dont look back! |
i havent had a problem yet but i woud like to know do the pede shafts just pop in place of the stoc ones or is there mods to do ? and also dosent your drive shaft extend when you flex and wont yours limit flex or break causr its guled ? |
I haven't had a single issue with my stock axial shafts. (Knocking on wood) 8) |
why not try the mip slider cvds for the scorpion? |
That will help for sure. "thumbsup" But the only real issue now is the ears of the u-joints will begin to twist, and the pin holes will oval out much faster than anything else. Eventually you'll want to dump the Axial driveshaft and use something (anything) else. I am using the Traxxas shafts just like you've got your Axials ones setup and it's pretty much bulletproof. |
I have the Traxxas Pede shafts on standby. I just wanted to see what I could do with the stock shafts. I'm going to run safety wire around the yokes, that should keep them from popping out.The wire is the same principle as the Axial collars. If it doesn't work,Oh well.I have Pede shafts on all my other trucks and haven't had any problems so far.Maxx shafts are overkill for me since I am only running a 55t with a 7 cell 2/3a pack. |
