I only mounted the rear links outside, the fronts links are still in the stock location.

I have both front and rear links outboard on my axles. even with the Axial CVDs, I get a slight rub but I think when i move my links more toward the center of the skidplate (CDW), it should eliminate even that rub. I saw more of a reduction just by moving the rear links outboard at the axle but it did help a little more when I moved the front links outboard as well.

So what exactly are the generally accepted types of ''rock racing'' are we talking about solid axle crawler type trucks on an offroad track or time attack plus gates from course to course? this sounds like something that would be really fun to build for.

That's about right. We usually have a few jumps, some dirt track, and rock obstacles spread throughout the course.

Do you have pics of your chassis without the body on? I'm curious to know how you mounted the battery.

I'm guessing that for a rock racer you don't want to have a whole lot of weight on the axles to reduce unsprung weight, unlike a crawler where most of the weight seems to be placed directly on the front axle.

if you get a chance throw us a pic of the course, some ideas about that were flying around locally.

Are you still running the stock RTR ESC on your ride? If so, how is it holding up to the power of the lipo?

Thanks

I don't have any pics, my camera isn't working right now. I just mounted the battery on top of the rear upper links with Axial's battery plate.

I just switched to a Super Rooster. The 12t motor and 3 cell lipo burned up the stock ESC.

So do you think the ESC can handle a 3 cell LIPO with a 65 turn motor and a cooling fan?

It should be ok. The 65t doesn't draw much for amperage. Just monitor the temps on your electronics while you run.

Bender-

Have you had problems with the plastic upper link mounts on the axle wearing out? The upper link mounts on my RTR allow the axle to wrap nearly 5 degrees!

They use 7T BL motors on some AX-10īs in Finland
They use them for Formula Off-road racing

Yeah, it flexed a little. I just swapped out the plastic links for aluminum Axial links to cure it.

Aluminum links won't help my problem though. The plastic links themselves seem to be OK, but where the 3-link ball joins to the mount on the axle, the ball has a lot of slop inside the mount. Does yours have a similar problem?
