Default MIP Driveshaft Quirk

I put the new HD MIP driveshaft in the front only of the AX 10.

I haven't figured out what part of the driveshaft causes this to happen, but when I hit half to full throttle, I get a wierd hesitation that starts slowly. At its worst, the front wheels studder stop continuously until I let off the throttle. The tranny never stops turning but the front wheels are (stop/start/stop/start) very quickly. I have noticed this on a steep climb with wheels spinning, and with the weight off completely like holding the truck or when it is high centered.

Today, after closely watching it while holding in my hand I'm stiff baffled. But I put the stock shaft back on and it went away completely.

The only thing I can figure is that the slop you get in an axial axle, along with the heavier rotational weight of the shaft and the heavy spinning wheels cause some type of phase to occur. And the lighter stock shaft doesn't have enough mass to make it happen.

I suppose the solution is to figure out a way to get the slop out of the axle, or leave the MIP out. On a climb, it can really screw you up.

Anyone else notice this?

I don't have the MIP shafts yet, but when I was running 2wd buggies, I would put a small piece of heat shrink on the CDV right over the pins. Works like a champ

The front suspension is in full down travel I am betting and the MIP driveshafts are at their maximum angle. Even though they are a CV, they still have a maximum angle that they can reach. Are you running the suspension completely stock? How about the grub screw? Is it tightened down on the flat all the way?

Sounds like the grub screw spinning on the output to me.

I checked that. It's tight and not spinning. My suspension is lower than stock. If it is at it's limit, then they would be pretty rough to run on a stock setup. I'm guessing that is it though.

Do the axles droop further down with the truck in the air than stock? Maybe just take some pictures for us to see.

Like someone said earlier. Its most likely at a steep angle and the speed variations are causing that. When the joint is steep it doesnt rotate at a uniform speed, it speeds up and slows down, and at half throttle it must just hit the frequency that makes the front end stutter like that. I had a scaler that did that, and lessening the front driveline angle fixed it completely.

Thats what I'm thinking. They are greased, set screw is tight, all the ususal stuff checked. I do like it... and I have already beat the crap out of it with no manufacturing or strength issues.

I just can't run it until I work out the quirk.

RPP. I usually order from TCS because they are super fast with everything so far and they were out of stock.

Mine work great. is there a chance you put to much loctite on the set screw and it bled over to the joint? that would cause it to bind.

good point i use to much every time and i had to work it out with the grease supplied and i dont have issues??? hrmmm possibly a weak component in the tranny / engine department??

i had the same problem with the stock drive shafts. only when i pick up the truck and susp. went full droop the shafts were at just enough angle not too bind but put a little force on the joint and cause it to stutter a little. so i dont think its the MIP's just a little too much driveline angle.
I ordered mine from RCP this week cant wait to get them installed.
