Talking Doc J33P's 2008.5 Comper

Ok, I finally finished her a couple of weeks back. All I can say is that it was a long process and a very rewarding one. Yes it took forever but I am very happy with the results. A couple months back I posted an incomplete build thread here. Basically this was a waste of bandwidth because I was not ready to post it up. Lessons learned I guess.

Well, a couple weeks back she was completed. This time I had redone everything by adding the MFM Black Widow Chassis. This chassis is so narrow the HH 7T barely has protection, lol. But it all fits. I learned that making things is better at times for this build. Next time around I will just make the damn thing run and then modify it, lol.

MFM Chassis - Black Widow (sweet chassis).
Custom Delrin, allthread, Revo links - thanks OffRoader5
VF Dig that works so damn well after the bugs were worked out!
MM/BEC/HH7T/DX3R/3100/5955/225/elites 7/8/Lipo
Tons of other stuff that is too much to list.

Thanks to John Holmes for all the phone support. Thanks to Castle for the great support. Thanks to all of the great vendors who got ALL of my business - RCP/TCS/CKRC/MFM/Bonus Line/Losi/HH/VF/etc....

Well, here are the 100 pictures, lol:

Learned a lot that day - also learned I have a great place to play:

First Comp at Lutz in Denver, CO - 8/24/08:
I got out of it all - well, mostly, lol.

Now, all I need to do is learn more about driving and how to control the 7T puller. That thing is a beast! The dig works so smoothly and the MFM chassis does not get hung up at all. I think the best addition to the whole build was the chassis. Hope you all like her as it was a really long process.

What da ya think MtnYote? lol

Jon

I have no complaints at all! That motor is a real smooth one at low speeds but when you pin the throttle it is nuts. I love the chassis. I think it needs to be promoted more!!! lol. Sure I have never driven any SW's or GC2's but compared to the stock one it is way better. The adjustability is great when you need it, but I have it dialed in for now. All I need is a little more weight up front and the thing is awesome.

I say do it! The chassis handled better than the driver, lol.

I love the narrow chassis! I actually got hung up on nothing due to the chassis. Sure my body caught or a link got scrubbed but the chassis barely touched a thing! I can't promote it enough, lol.

Just curious what kinda run times are you achieving with the 7t and 8cell 2/3a packs versus running lipo..?

I ran the 7 cell for two runs with no issue - never died. For the last run I threw in the 8cell. When I discharged the 7 it had about 3 volts left. The 8 had about 8 volts left!

That was running the 7T for the second time. I will say that due to the incredible low end control I never really goosed it. That was until it flipped on its lid or I was bound up. It did run pretty hot though and that was cause of my gearing which I need to change.

I am sorry I cannot report on the lipo yet. I wired the rig for the comp with the saddles. I have a 2200 Mah 25c 3s sitting on the bench. I think I am going to sell it as I have more than enough power with the 8 cell. I am going to sell the 7 cell as well and just buy another 8. I think for me the saddles are enough. I can't imagine what lipo would be like with my setup. As is if I didn't have a slipper I would have heard some snaps.

Thanks x3, lol. I made sure that I built this thing to be bullet proof before I ever ran it. That way I shouldn't break anything.

Doc, I can not agree more, the black widow is a home run. I have been crawling for many years now and have owned the best of the best (SW2/SW3) when it comes to comp chassis. The bw is so simple but so well designed.
