another other betty tj's rig i have been getting more and more into crawling. trying to be a good dad i got my sons into crawling with me. i gave my stepson tyler my ax10rtr, and had hoped to make it a bit more like a trail rig for him. i showed him a couple of bodies that i could get in a trade here at rccrawlers... and he decides he likes the powerwagon. it's cool, i know its the stock ax10 betty and all, but to me it's just a cool old truck. here are a few snaps of the paintwork i did for him. i copied an idea i saw on here that he liked. be easy its only my second paint. his color choices. I like like but I've always been a fan of green |
Good job, Dad! What a lucky kid, too. Looks great, hope you both have tons of fun together. I miss running with my kid, he decided girls are more fun than rc'ing. T.D. |

trail chassis time *** update *** ever since i painted my son's betty for him he has been asking more about getting a pull point so i can winch his truck if he's stuck. he also said he wished his truck road more like a trail truck than a buggy. i copied this idea from someone here. i saw it in the forums and figured i would give it a try. its ghetto fab at it's finest, and gets the job done for sure. first i took his shocks apart and set them up droop with internal pen springs "thumbsup" then i cut two 15 inch long sections of 1/2 inch c-channel aluminum and bolted them up to the stock plates with four computer case screws , and left the stock braces in place. i moved the shocks outbound a bit more and spaced them off the rails with some 3/16" brakeline spacers i made. http://i37.tinypic.com/23w5zyr.jpg http://i35.tinypic.com/2nvfnkh.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/2gujlkx.jpg he wanted a rear pull point as well so i took a stock rod end from the parts bin and bolted it facing down.... see it top right hand of pic. http://i33.tinypic.com/33kt2rc.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/14al7hz.jpg ---- no more annoying fender biting 8) ----- http://i35.tinypic.com/b47of5.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/2py41n6.jpg |

guess i'm not the only one who likes the betty body. looks good! my 2 y.o. was steering my ax10 tonite, i cant wait til she gets a little older! way to share the hobby w/ ur kid, i wish my dad did stuff like that when i was younger. |

a word to the wise about " can't wait till she gets a little older " that's what i used to think when my boys were that age... then i blinked and now i got two pre-teens. enjoy every minute you got with her, time flies when your having fun. not to knock my old man, but him and i didn't hang out much like this either, my dad was a trucker "thumbsup" so i try to be what i missed. |
Kudo's to you! Great rig, nice mods. The poor dodge powerwagon never gets respect. Being a mentor and friend is hard when you also need to be a father. you, however, are a DAD. Big difference. |
