I totally agree with 666 no messing with crystals and you can control a dig with it.

I recommend a futaba 2.4gz 3PM. It has a two position 3rd channel, no crystals and is under $200.

if money is tight.TQ3's do the trick as well, and they are cheap and plentiful.
an extra set or two of crystals is an asset if your running with a bunch of other trucks.
DX3 is nice, but sometimes money talks.

A Traxxas TQ3 is perfect for starting out. They're about $20 on Ebay and they work well.

A DX3R is not really what I would call entry level. Besides, you can sell a TQ3 for what you paid for it when you decide to upgrade.

it depends on what your plans are down the road. are you going to compete or bash around in the yard? you plan on running dig. the traxxas tq3 are nice for the money. expescially if it has the third switch mod. so you can run dig. but if you are going to compete i would go for the dx3r money well spent. you just show up at the comp and run, don't have to worry about somebody (accidentally) turning there radio on messing your run up. i had a tq3 and it worked but the dx3r blows it out of the water.

Default Tq3

I've posted up on this already.

TQ3 is a good entry level radio for less than $25, and you can always upgrade later.

If you do buy a better radio later, you'll always have the TQ3 as a backup.

I spend more than $25 on other crap, and have not gotten the returns that the TQ3 has given.

Don't cheap out I bought a magnum sport am junk radio and after 3 weeks I am allready going to upgrade to a 3 channel 2.4. Save the money and buy a decent radio I wasted 50 bucks.

Yeah, if money permits I think i guys should by a good one. I want a DX3R, I bought an artr and cheaped out, seemed like a good idea, now i want a dig. My cheap airtronics one is great if that all i could afford but i should have listened to guys on here and bought a good radio off the hop.

Spektrum is the way to go by todays standards. It might not be entry level, but honestly you are better off spending the cash now and avoid the entry level step.

I was at my first indoor onroad practice night this past Saturday and there were a lot of dx3r's present over last year and very few AM/FM radios. In fact, the president of the race club asked " all users of radios with crystals I need to see you now..." and there was silence. lol. We all kind of looked at him dumbfounded wiggling our dx3r's.

I would say any FM 3ch radio would be fine (Futaba or JR are what I would suggest since I have no experience with other brands) for just running around by yourself in your yard or nearby to your house.

If you plan to compete later on with a local club of 10-20 people, then Spektrumize yourself and don't look back.

There is also the new DX3S. One of our club members recently picked one up just after christmas. Have to see how it does on his new rig.

Oh another thing, dx3r's only use 4 batteries vs 8. Much more efficient and no huge antenna to poke eyes out with.
