I installed the 36/14 OD gears in the front, with HD gears in the rear. The truck performs like night and day and some turns are doable with out the dig more now then before. Also verting is more forgivible, i'm making lines now that I could not before.

i was wondering if i could get a different ring set for my ax10.i usualy run a creeper and it has an axial front end on it and it always seemed to engage at a different time when i hit the throttle.i thought it was just cuz the dog bones were "looser" then the cvds in the rear.....now i know why,i think

the 36/14 is the OD gear set? this speeds up the front wheels to help hold the front down right?

It overdrives the front axle shafts allowing you to pull the front end up over obstacles easier. The Underdrive is advertised as "reducing" torque twist. you can use both for optimal performance for a comp crawler.

So never dealing with changing gears before and seeing some rigs for sale with ud/od gears in both axles I just ordered both. So my question is am I not supposed to run both?

Yes. Run OD in the front - 36/14, and UD in the rear - 43/13.

Without going through the last several pages of this thread, it provides the rig with a faster spinning front, and slower spinning rear. This help with push, and is what almost all sportys are running because it helps steering without requiring a dig unit.

Unless you are running high speeds, which is anything over crawling speeds, run this combination. Some people will tell you that they have had problems with this setup, but unfortunately they messed something else up, or are complete idiots.

I've only managed to trash this setup when I tried to do so, with 3S on a 4800KV motor. Crawling speeds are totally safe, and completely advisable.

Overdrive front gears help pull the front around but they are weaker than stock ratio HD or underdrive. After chewing up 2 sets of overdrive gears I've gone to running HD stock ratio front with underdrive rear. The gearing offset helps with steering but not as much as OD/UD. But the gears live through my stupid human tricks without fail.

I'm going to have to +1 this. For a really lightweight sporty, OD/UD. If you're going to beat the crap out of it, which I do, HD/UD. I've been running HD/UD since I trashed a few sets of OD as well.
