Droop set ups need the internal spring or they won't work their best. With nothing to suck the shock back closed, the truck can do whatever it wants, and not in a good way.

before adding internal-springs...my suspension would always unload, causing me to fall backwards when attempting to do simple climbs like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rmbgcph4ys

Yeah, you need springs and thick oil. If you don't use the internal springs from TCS try your local hardware store. I took a shock body in with me and bought 4 of every spring that would fit. They only had rate info on a few of them so I found a spring rate calculator online to get an idea of what I was working with. I ended up using three with about 4lbs/in and one with about 9.lbs/in. The stiffer one went in the right rear to keep it from unloading on me. I experimented with a lot of different oils (from 50wt to 3000wt). I found a happy place with a 50/50 mix of 1000wt and 3000wt to give me approx. 1725wt. (another useful calculator online). My next step is choosing which aftermarket shocks to use.

Ditto on needing the internal springs. I tried a droop on my Fatdog tuber I built last year without springs, and it sucked.

checkout your local hardware store. you will be surprised how many springs in various rates they carry. cheap too use your diagonal cutters if you find some that are too long/or to tune them to your rig.

TCS has them in different weights also. If you are going to use the shocks in droop, get the STRC aluminum bodies for them also (come in a set of 4). They help keep the stock caps from popping off......

Hi guys... Yesterday i mounted a pair of new alluminium shocks on my axial ax 10 ckrc stage 2... now when the crawler is at rest it is very very low, with very few ground clearance. Moreover, when shocks are compressed the drive shafts strikes the alluminium "Y". How can I resolve this problem? Perhaps removing the spacer that there's between the Y and the axle?

i used pen springs 35 wt oil and double bias valved the shocks ( 2 hole on top as stock in a artr scorpion took the rubbers out and put a single hole dampening plate under neath the stock one between the spring and orig plate) seems to help with torque twist also used soft race springs from losi on the outside and mounted them upside down to avoid popping the shock tops off ...fyi the tops of my shocks are mounted just above the upper link mounts making it "catepillar" when trying to high center results in a low ride height sytem that articulates over 180 degrees with out popping parts ..... it works for me but it does drive alot diff then other peoples rigs

Yah, its around somewhere. Droop would place the spring under the shock. If you want a convensional sprung shock, you can put a small spring inside and on top of the piston.

Okay but if the entire shock was inverted the spring would the go on bottom of the diaphram. Right? The spring should always go on the bottom of the shock body, if it is mount normal or inverted. Right? Jason
