I just got my first crawler a week ago (AX-10 ARTR) and I was looking at TCS and I saw some internal springs and I was wondering if you still use oil with internal springs?

I am currently running the medium internal springs and 45wt oil. I think that something like 60-70wt would work a little better, but that is just my 2 cents.

If you want to save some money go to the local ace hardware or whatever and snoop arround a bit. I found like 5 or 6 diffrent spring that either fit perfectly on the sock shaft or around the body and are all diffrent strengths. I even going one step farther and doing a progressive setup and putting in a longer shaft spring and a shorter body spring for more tunability.

I've never really understood the intetnal spring thing. Are you running these in a droop set-up exclusively or good for sprung applications also? What is the benefit over non-internally sprung methods? Are you still limiting your shocks internally?

you can still run limiters on your shocks, ive found that use of internal shock is more for clearence issues in a standerd non droop setup unless your running a droop setup, than internal is a must, and also gives a sleek look too, lol,, like that matters, as far as oil, for example, without oil if your front tires spin on a rock they tend to bounce or decending of a ledge and landing hard, the use of oil tends to stop the bounce, also as it articulate, makes for a more smooth transition, less jerky, bouncy, or whatever you want to call it, makes for more control and i think it makes your rig more predictable, its always better to know what your rig is going to do or how it will react in a certain situation,,,,as for benifit, it will be different for each his own, different style driving- diffenent setup just my .02 cents Last edited by lizard017; 01-27-2009 at 11:25 AM.

Made the switch to 70wt and it perfoms like never before. I love having a super stable droop setup now.

Yes both front and rear. I do have a 1/4 inch of fuel tube in the front right to help preload the spring a little. I found that only going up realy steep (63 + degrees) I was getting a small amount of torque twist. In a droop setup you need to remember that it is opposite of a conventional sprung shock. (outer sprung rigs preload the left rear, Droop you preload the right front IF you need to. Hope this helps.
