im thinking of getting a set of these

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/images/D/DSCN2143.jpg

one thing i need to address is hardware, seems most if not all the RTR hardware isn't going to be reusable with my new parts. should i A. buy a "kit" and hope it has eveything i need or B. make a few tirps to ace and hope i dont go broke ahah.........

im really looking forward to this build. the truck is ok how it came i imagen it can only get better

Looks like you are off to a very good start. I myself picked up the MFM BW I needed a frame to fit around a puller. Anyways, keep us update das you progress along. Also I know some vendors have a whole screw kit I wanna say it is like 30.00 for a whole bunch of screws. Now that I think about it I seen it on rpphobby.com. Goodluck.

hey there is alot of things you can due with the ax10, heres what i did to mine, http://rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157095, only thing i had to make on mine so far is my driveline dig, basicly ditch everything on it but tranny axles and skidplate, that integy motor is good for the price, im running a 55t fixin to go to a 45t to get a little more wheel speed, i also have a rooster esc coming, ive heard there alright, but keep your mind on what you buy, if you plan on going lipo, i found out the rooster has a 2cell limit on it, be sure to keep your post updated, its always good to see how other peoples minds work, remember, venders on this site are awsom, support our vendors, oh get a set of panthers, there worth it dont mess with the stinkys, yes stock tires stink that come on the kits

RC Screwz has a Stainless Steel hardware kit for the Scorpion:

They always supply more than is needed so you'll have some extras for repairs, and you'll have a cool little parts case to boot.

You need the hardware upgrade kit made by Axial. It is made out of Delrin and has everything you need to upgrade from the RTR plastic links to the ARTR Aluminum links. It's a great kit and I have this on my truck. Plus they give you two of everything so you get spare parts.

Hope this helps.

very nice love them BW chassis

carzlutt 02-01-2009 12:34 AM

htanks for the tips guys!....... so far i have gotten the lower links front and rear, upper links on the front, front shox, and the steering linkage all onto the new BW frame.

i reused all the RTR hardwear just to get it mocked up. seems so far im only going to need about 20-26ish new screws/nuts. i plan to price them out localy and if its over 1/2 what a kit will cost ill just get the kit.

i didnt realize how big a need there is for diffrent shocks when running the BW frame, either iv got to change my curent stuff to a internal spring setup or get a totaly diffrent shock.

over all just holding the frame w/ the front axle installed this thing seems way better laid out. the axle seems to track better i.e. the pinon angle stays consistan w/ up and down tralve.

i prob wont hav emuch time to work on my truck for a few days but i will get the lame cell phone pics i took of my progress posted.!.......

I would do the ace or home depot thing!!!!!!

21.48!.... yikes!..........

lession learned, buy the kit of hardwear next time. as for the money i spen ti didnt get eveything jsut enough to get me back into 1 piece.

next up is to figure out wehre i want my tranny mounted as my current skid is drilled for a "dig" setup with i dont have.

Nice....keep us posted...like to see some actual build pics. lol

carzlutt 02-03-2009 01:41 PM

ok some real pics.......

what i started off with

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02694.jpg

got some used links and ends!.. thanks!....

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02695.jpg

used blackwidow frame

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02696.jpg

and the rig pre make over

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02697.jpg

as i started swaping to the new frame things seemed to fit ok, the RTR hardwear is junk and wasnt eveny usable relly for mock up.

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02698.jpg

i played around w/ some of the extra stuff i had and i came up with this for steering

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02699.jpg

i really like how the steering worked out, but im afraid the stock plastic knuckles wont last long. just hand cycleing the steerign i see a lot of flex where the drag link and tie rod connect to the nuckle.

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02703.jpg

all most a rolling frame. i was a bit shocked to find otu the button head hardwear was a good 30cents per bolt cheaper than standard allen head.

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02710.jpg

the links fit vey well and have a good duble triangulatoin affect.

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02711.jpg

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02712.jpg

this is my max articulatoin, totaly reduced from the stock frame. wich is probably a good thing. the stock set up had so much flex i could roll the truck over just cralwing up a small rock.

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02722.jpg

http://www.jessdawg.com/web/photos/a...w/IMG02723.jpg

i dont paln to actuly run the rig w/ the spring set up in the pics, its just how i had things on the old set up and didnt have motovaton to change them yet. i paln to run internal springs.

sorry for the crummy cell phone pics but thats all i have for a cam right now.

i need to drill the skid plate for the proper tranny locatoin still.

guess im kind of at a stopping point till i get more parts. i need the battery mounts and also a new battery to go along with them.

i have yet to pick out a body also.

any hoot its comming....... thanks for all the tips and help guys!

Re: my fu2.2 build......

boy,....... talk about some dust. ... I pulled this out of a box a few months ago and got it running again. thing is a blast. amazing how eaby can score some good cheap stuff time to time.

items swapped recently

radio/receiver
-TRAXXAS TQ 2.4ghz 2 Channel Radio

motor
-HH 30t

ESC
-Tekin BXR

15mm Widen spacers

Hot Racing Axial SCX10 Aluminum Rear Axle Lockout

Vanquish Products Axial 8° C-Hub Set

Axial aluminum inner C's

Axial aluminum links

Traxxas rod ends

Robinson Racing 20tooth pinion

TCS Crawlers Black Anodized Aluminum Upper Link/Servo Mount

lots if new stainless 3mm hardware

truck really need a better servo, whatever 10+ yr old servo the truck has been running is slow and weak. i bought a Castle Creations BEC and a savox servo but all i got was a bunch of issues with twitching and the servo locking up. not sure if the Traxxas receiver cant handle the BEC or what the problem is so i went back to the old servo and will revisit this at a latter time.

went back to the OE chassis, the Black-widow is just to skinny to mount everything easily.

next up will be installing some random no name aluminum bead-lock rims and pro-line super swamper 2.2 xl. the rims need a bunch of work to make work but i already started setting a fixture up so i can machine them on the Milling machine.

soon this thing should be putting the FU back in FUN!......
