Default Hurley's General Lee Speed King - TCS Eclipse Tuber

Once again it is time for me to start my next project. With the recent release of the new TCS Eclipse tube frame the idea had already popped in my mind. I was going to build my first dedicated Rock Racer. Being such a big fan of Orange I decided to go with the theme of the Dukes of Hazord General Lee. I think it will fit the theme well as I plan to beat the hell out of it

As all of my builds do, I started with an order from TCS. Then I filled in the gaps with some more awesome vendors such as Vanquish Products, MaxAmps, DNA R/C, Holmes Hobbies and Futaba.

  • Axial ARTR
  • TCS Eclipse Tube Chassis
  • 4-link/Servo Plate
  • Boomerang rear 4-link plate
  • Losi Rock Claws
  • NWTT All-Weather Hybrid Foams
  • Tekin FXR ESC
  • Holmes Hobbies Handwound 35t (may get bumped to a 27t for competition).
  • MaxAmps 3s Lipos (1290 and 2100)
  • Futaba 4PK
  • Futaba S9156 servo (340 oz/in torque)
  • Castle BEC
  • Vanquish DH 2.2 Beadlocks
  • Vanquish Bullet weights
  • Vanquish High Steer Knuckles
  • Vanquish Rear Lockouts
  • Traxxas GTR Shocks

And the fun begins.......

First things first, I swapped the stock ARTR over the the Eclipse frame and converted the stock shocks to droop (I was doing the instructions for the chassis, these are not the shocks I will be running). I don't think droop is the way to go for a rig I plan on jumping so I will be swapping in Traxxas GTR shocks tonight. I also installed black annodized aluminum TCS 4-link mounts front and rear. I also installed the Lexan rear electronics tray available through TCS.

Next up I couldn't resist to dig into these insanely cool wheels. The machining is really amazing, I have never owned a set of RC beadlocks with this much detail and machine work. Hats off to the crew over at VP. Of course I couldn't resist to get them in Orange on Black. Since I will be using the rig for Rock Racing I figured a set of Rock Claws would do the job well. They have a nice sidewall and good compound. I filled them with NWTT All-Weather Foams which should give me a little extra support as well.

I also picked up two sets of the VP Bullet weights. This will give me enough to fill both front wheels and two per each rear wheel. I won't be using this except when I feel a course may need some weight. The quick change weight system will really be perfect for a Rock Racer!

Last up was to install the Vanquish Rear Lockouts. Again, great machine work and a nice flat black finish.

I also wanted to check some battery options to suggest to customers when dealing with this frame. I will probably be using this small MaxAmps 1290 pack for my rig. Since I will be running a sprung suspension there will be a significant amount of up-travel and this battery will tuck into the passenger compartment nicely.

If you were going to run the stock shocks in droop you could fit a battery as large as this MaxAmps 2100 with no problems.

along for the ride....great start. But you should do a running tally of what this thing costs.

Never mind I don't think any of us want to be shown the figure we spend on these things

I have a spread sheet with a break down of what each rig I build costs. You are right though, you don't want to know. I will post it when I get closer to the end.

Body Panel Time!

I called Kev and asked him to send me the CAD files for the body panels, from there it was time to lay out the roof panel. I googled the Confederate flag, laid it in CAD and got the general angles and such. Then got to work cleaning it up.

Work is done just time to do some cleanup work

Ready for stickers or paint masks to be made I will bring this all into Illustrator and add color and then do the numbers on the side........with a twist!
