Default Want to start crawling

Hi. I am new on here but not new to RC. I want to start crawling and am looking to build an AX10 based crawler. My first question is what are the major differences in the green kit AX10 and the artr orange AX10 kit? Is it worth buying the ARTR if i plan on doing various upgrades and mods anyways. My first option purchase would more than likely be the SWX chassis kit. Any input would be beneficial to me. I already have a 7955 hitec servo and various speedo's. I will probably go with a Novak 55 or 45 turn motor.........and.............help me out guys

go with the artr

it has the locked out rear axle already, also has better tires, bent rear links, and a competion style body

these are probabbly going to be your first upgrades.

when picking up the artr id also think about looking into different battery options other than the stock stick on the battery plate on top of the chassis. personally i prefer the 2/3a split pack on the front axle as opposed to going lipo

ohh and pick up some lead stick-on weights for the wheels

I would say if you plan on a bunch of upgrades any way then just buy the axles and tranny seperately and do your build around the SWX chassis like you are talking about, you can then buy better tires and wheels, 4-link it front and rear, all the things that you would probably change down the line any way, it will save you money in the long run All that is left to my ARTR is the axles and tranny

Buying a great chassis and going from there will save you money in the long run. Find one that suits your needs and ask a ton of questions!!Jason

Is the SWX chassis a good platform to build off of? What are other good ones. I'm sure there are biased opinions but my ears are open....

IMO The SWX is the best chassis to start with, much narrower than stock axial TVP. Suspension design is second to none. You wont be regretting the purchase at all. I prefer a 45t motor, plenty of torque on 8 cell still with wheelspeed.
-As for ESC you can vary this alot, Castle Sidewinder is a popular choice lots of versatility, unlimited tuning. Also the Tekin FXR or Castle Mamba max. (steer clear of novak rooster)
-You will need to Have a Castle BEC to get a full 6v to your servo.
-I run a 4 link up front but it is not nec. the stock Y link seems to be working for alot of people.
-I like the Losi shocks, personal preference. http://rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=172770
-Transmission run a axial system.
My advice is to get the ARTR. Run it. Tune it. You will be surprised on what it is capable of, It comes with wheels which are good enough( i still run 2 sets). Its a no brainer to add the SWX later. Focus on skill and getting quality electronics in your rig. Limiting the stock shocks with fuel tubing will do wonders for your rig even in stock form. just search hopefully this helps i know its a little random.

What is wrong with the Novak Rooster Crawler? My local hobby shop recommended it and swore by it...

7 cell max, history of glitching if on a basic AM radio system, lack of adjustments(LIPOcutoff 7.4 max or NIMH cells) are the only two settings. The one thing it has going for it is the 6v to servo without a BEC. This is my opinion, experience and alot of others on the boards.
Castle sidewinder has adjustable drag/hold brake. adjustable deadband, adjustable throttle curves. It can handle 11.1 cell lipo. Over all just a better investment if you are going to be a recreational/serious crawler.

I already have 5 speedos to chose from. Losi sensored Xcelorin, Novak GTB, Novak Slydr, Vellinion brushshless. and a Traxxas XL-5 that comes with the Slash but i'd get another if there is something better than any of these....... I dont want to spend $250 on something and end up having none of it left but the tranny and axles. To me that's a waste. It's like buying and RTR LOSI to get going and end up upgrading everything to kit form anyways. Big waste of money. I just want to do it right the 1st time
