Default Woot! ARTR! ~ Duuuuuuuudes mini build thread ~

I finally got my ARTR in the mail yesterday! I won't waste your time with a pic...

Once I got my electronics swapped over from my Manta, I quickly realized how terrible the torque twist is on these things...WOT from a standstill would twist the front axle untill it was nearly standing up straight!

So far I've 4-linked the rear, moved the battery to the front links, mirrored the trans, added about 9 oz in each front wheel and 4 oz in each rear, added 5/16 delrin lower links, put them inside the chassis, and swapped out to softer springs with a 1/2" chunck of fuel tubing on the rear shafts.

Much better.

I also picked up some Flat Irons and ran those for a while. Nice tires, super soft, but the foams have very little support. Any sidehilling will fold them under quick. I've switched back to the Hammers untill I can find something proper to fill the FI's.

Now that I got all that done, I put a few packs through it today to see how it compares to my super. The shorter wheelbase obviously has some limitations, but there were alot of my old lines I was able to follow as well as a couple new ones. At least I'm heading in the right direction...

Anyway, right now its currently torn down while I swap everything over to a tube chassis I picked up. I WILL post pics of that when its done. Full droop with Revo shocks...sounds like fun!

Get a Bastard and tell me what you think of it.

I have an X-trail on the way for my ARTR. No one to compete with around here. :(

Another late night of crawler building...its getting to be a habit.

Here's some completed shot of the new(ish) chassis. The guy I got it from told me that it's one of Pinchflat's. Solid steel all the way around. Kinda heavy, but not too bad. Only problem is that there is very few areas to put things. Everything had to go in the back, even the battery. I imagine that I can pull the lead out of the wheels to offset the weight.

It sits pretty low, but there is nothing I can do about it ATM. The only shocks that really fit right are the Revos, and all the springs I have for them are waaaay to stiff. I'm going on the hunt for some super-light Slayer springs tomorrow.

On to the pics...

Nice looking rig. That's the first I've hear of someone that started with a super and went down to the 2.2.
I use flat irons with the ARTR, and I thought I was the only one with the side hill problem. Any info that you come up with in the future would help me a ton. Haven't had the time to research, damn scaler project.

Thank you sir...to bad I didn't design it! Though I'm gearing up to do just that...

I came down from the super to keep things interesting. All my old rocks are new again!

I imagine that with the proper foams, the FI's would be kick-ass. Those new two-piece foams that I've been seeing may be the answer.

Gave the new chassis a good thrashing today. I'll probably go back with the original bent links that came with the kit to gain a little more clearance, as well as reinstall the rubber shock bumpers to give the belly another 1/4" untill I can find springs for it.

With all the weight pulled out of the rear wheels it isn't so flip happy, but you can tell the battery is back there when trying to pull the ass end up and over something. I may yet have to invest in a battery with a smaller footprint.

Shoooooot, back in the early days we all started with Supers. 2.2s didn't become popular til mid 2005 maybe?

Dooood, I'd consider yourself lucky to have grabbed that chassis. Pretty sweet right there. I think Pinchy ran sprung Tamiya TC shocks with it? Maybe? Guess I could look for his build thread. Or maybe you already have...

The chassis isn't bad at all really. Some of the link mounts aren't aligned (rear axle sits shifted over to one side) but it seems to do its job just fine. I'd like to know where he mounted his battery though...

I did just find the build thread, though it was more of a "hey look what I just built" thread...

Set the time machine back a ways and take a trip to the TLT forums...

So it took a couple of days, but I finally managed to really break something. Not shockingly (the way I drive) I snapped one of the outputs off of the trans. What was shocking was what I saw when I took it apart...all three of the diff screws were backed out and rubbing on the case. The inside was covered in metal dust. That would explain the noise.

Luckily I had a set of CDW outputs on hand, so in they went. I also scrounged up a short set of shocks for the front, so now I'm running fully sprung in the front, and fully drooped in the rear. Sounds weird, works great!

Here's one poser and one (mild) action shot from my trip to the lake this morning...

I'm still trying to get my Flat Irons to quit folding over, and the Shoe Goo on the sidewall seems to be the ticket. The stock Hammers do ok, but they aren't soft enough. Even with the memory foam and a buttload of weight (7 oz in each wheel + 6 oz strapped to the axle) up front, they don't squish very easily.

Can anyone recommend some good FI foams? I really want to run these tires...

I'm really starting to love "Homegrown". Looked a little weird when it was a bare chassis, but put together with the orange ARTR parts, it's pretty killer. I also like the solid "thunk" it makes when it rolls over.
