Just a couple quickies tonight.

MIP center CVD's with the shorty for the HRD...

Thread locked the set screws of course...

Completed, and lubed the joints as well as the male and female shafts with Sullivan Dry Ice, it's the shit...

Bolted up an Epic Kreepy 45T to start some mock up and wiring estimates...

It's gonna' be tight...

Should have just enough room for the M3 side panel nut...

Stay tuned...

cool build so far,
i'm running both sets of gears w/dig and YES it does have some issues in bind situations but with quality outdrives and alum/case gears no breakage yet in a 9lb rig.I might pull the rears out but the turning radius is just insane,it's so tight with both sets
i'm intersted in your suspension choices
please lets us know the final weight when done, and how much wheel weight you use

I usually use a small dab of silicone to hold the nut in place...but the motor may do it for me this time

Thanks man!

I did end up removing the UD gearing from the rear and went back to the stock HD gears to avoid any un-necessary issues.

If the dig ever comes out, I'll put the UD's back in, and switch out the front to stock HD. My buddy D Rail used the UD's in a comp last weekend in his dig-less Black Widow, and I could see the difference!

I'm still debating over suspension...I have 3 options on the table, it's just a matter of mocking up to aid in the decision process. And you'll get a complete spec list...not to worry my friend

Rear beadies and tires tonight.

Some sweet Eritex 1 inch Comp Heavies...

Individual weight is 3.4 ounces...

5.9 ounces with the rings and hardware...

Added an additional 2 ounces to each...

Cougars and F400's...

A little motor spray to clean up the tires...

Cleaned up the flashing...

Dead nuts at 3 ounces for each tire; the foams are .5 ounces each...

Picked up a nice punch from Harbor Freight for less than 5 beans...

Two opposing 1/8" breathers for each tire...

Buttoned up...

Profile...

All up is 10.1 ounces...

5 1/8" at the lug...

Just shy of 2" wide...

More to come...

I finished up the rims and tires tonight, wired up the motor and bolted up all the links as well.

Added 4 ounces to each front rim...

Bumps the individual weight to 7.3 ounces...

All up weight for each complete front is 12.1 ounces...

Ready to go...

On to the Epic 45; dropped it into my RPM Motor Station; if you don't own one of these I highly recommend picking one up...

Scuffed the tabs...

Tinned the tabs...

I generaly use Deans 12awg Wet Noodle in all my builds, but I thought I'd try some 14awg for the Eclipse...

Nice clean joint...

And a little heat shrink...

Bolted back up to the tranny and set the gear mesh...

Back in the chassis with links and ready for shocks...

Suspension and axle mock up next...

Can we get a side profile shot that shows how close the spur is to sticking out the front window area?

Cool, could do something like this too, and suck the spur back closer to the trany.

Thanks Kami

I'll add a couple as well...

Also just ran into my first "bolt up" tweak. The 6mm spacers used for the rear upper links have to go bye-bye, as the MIP yoke coming off of the dig shaft won't clear the nut.

I'm using a TCS Boomerang, so a shorter spacer should leave me with enough play in the hollow ball to avoid biniding issues, but if you're running the stock 3 link "Y" with the HRD and MIP's you'll have to make an adjustment to accomodate for the yoke.

Great build so far, I'm really wanting to see how this turns out. I'm wanting to comp a tuber. I know this particular tuber doesn't have alot of different adjustments for links and shocks. But I believe there in a damn near good spot. With a little shock turning I think this tuber could be my ticketThanks for the persuasion

Thanks, and I agree...

I think there are plenty of tuning adjustments that can be made to and with the components within a crawler, so not having dozens of shock or link mount points doesn't concern me too much.

Glad I could help, and you'll be happy to know that TCS dropped the price down to $59.99 on the Eclipse, so order up ;)

Seen that. After I made that post I jumped straight to TCS. Ha. Quick ?. What are your plans for shocks. Droop or damping. I'm asking cause I'm trying to picture your dig servo not contacting upper links.

I spent all of last night experimenting with 3 different shock set ups that I have.

Right now I'm looking at droop with 2 of the 3 options...I should have some updates and pics posted by the end of the weekend

Hells yeah. From previous shock setups w/droop. My buddy has good luck running droop, he runs a little bit taller tire to help GC. Then uses stiffer internal springs in the rear keeping the shocks from unloading. As long as the ride is a slow crawl it's not that bad of a ride. But whenever wheel speed is needed, the ride gets bouncy. I think leaving a small external spring to smooth out bumps would do the trick w/ that setup

I was hoping you were gonna go droop but after your wheels were weighted on the lighter side i thought maybe sprung was your choice as most droop setups use alot more weight.:?
I'm running about 80% droop w/ a short compression spring to control ride height and smooth it out, works great with 5000k oil to slow it all down.
Makes for a much more realistic lookin' suspension as it cycles
