I have been beating on these things hard for over a year and overall I am very happy with the performance gains. I broke all of the stock axles and as they broke I upgraded them to the Tamia axles that someone posted ealier, then I kept breaking those. They don't snap like stock ones but they bend fairly easily and I found that after a few bend/straighten cycles they would break at the hex pin hole. The other issue is that the area where you have to gring off the flange is where the axle rides in the inner bushing, if you dont get a good finish and accurate sizing you will get accelerated bushing wear and slop in the axle leading to poor gear mesh. I started looking around my local hobby shop and found Traxxas part#3637, I think it is a 2wd slash front axle. It looks much stronger than the Tamia axle and lets face it, Traxxas stuff is built tough. It is the corrrect diamater and instead of grinding the flange down you just have to shorten the shaft. I did this by chucking the shaft up in a cordless drill and spinning it against my belt sander until the length from the hex drive pin hole to the end of the shaft was the same as the original axle. Of course you still have to drill the second hole for the gear drive pin just like on the tamia axles. The only other thing you have to do is drill the Axial wheel hex to 5mm all the way through because the Traxxas axle has a longer shank before stepping down to the threads. |

Thinking about buying a set of these on the bay but from what I've read I can't decide. They are badass but I don't wanna throw down $60 on something that won't work. Anyone have any advice?

HA! I'd say any of these that aren't broken already...probably won't break. Very surprised to see any available, that's encouraging. I'd need THREE pairs for my current project: Custom Made 6WD Wheely King #3 - YouTube |
