New 3racing High Clearance Knuckle.

Anyone running these yet? I was looking at them here: http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-axi...cPath=595_1160

I thought they might be a good investment. Any ideas or input with them please?

gunnar 05-31-2009 01:40 AM

Actually a portal axle setup, wish they had a high steer arm though. I would like to try em, when I can get them.

QIK-RX4 05-31-2009 02:13 AM

Well I dont have the problems of steering rods at the front, mine has a plate running across on the inside. Gives me bettera approach angles.

Bugger it, im ordering a set now....lol

Those are pretty sick. I agree with gunnar tho. I would get some if they had a high steer arm. Looks like your gunna gain about a 1/4 in GC.

Nahh.....I doubt there is any gear reduction with those....they just used a similar design to raise the knuckle...

roksloski 05-31-2009 08:08 AM

Jakes Performance Hobbies has them in stock...."thumbsup"

Yes, I don't think there is reduction either. I just said portal because that's what they remind me of, and if there is no idler gear, motor rotation would have to be reversed. Looking at the cover, it looks like a two gear setup.

Probably why they only sell them in sets of 4. Interesting to see them doing a part like that. If they are strong enough I would even consider running them on just the rear of my berg.

In certain bind situations, could also put additional stress on the end of the axle housing too. More distance between center of axle and stub centerline=more rotational leverage=twist off the end of the housing.

Kamikaze 05-31-2009 10:43 AM

I saw a picture of the inside of them somewhere. The top gear was smaller than the bottom gear. There looks like there is some reduction though not much.

yoda316 05-31-2009 02:21 PM

I wonder how much you actually gain in gc.
it looks like they will make you wider as well .
seems kinda cool , makes you wider while keeping the width/gc of axle in somewhat the same ratio as before.
but like gunnar said , they will probably twist off the axles c's unless maybe they had enough reduction to help with that.

thanks for the pics.
how many teeth are on those gears?

Code454 05-31-2009 02:58 PM

im not positive there pics off of another site

Last months issue of RC Car Action had these in there. According to them, these portal setups provide a 1.6:1 gear reduction

Code454 05-31-2009 03:00 PM

they also have them im blue for the Cr01

Yea, looks like 10 and 16 on the tooth count. Reverse motor rotation. Yes they would raise COG, but lowering belly height some would help. Hard tell if the shafts are fully bearing-supported, the top shaft might be a bushing, but could be a tiny bearing too.

JoeMotor 05-31-2009 04:42 PM

Umm, since the arm is centered vertically couldn't you flip them and lower the CG?

that would drop the pumpkin lower then stock height and cause you more problems.

JeremyH 05-31-2009 04:50 PM

Yeah, a little bit of reduction. Might not be a bad idea for the rear...
