Hey guys I've got a problem that I think I know the answer to but thought I would run it by you guys first. I have an ax10, with a rooster combo(55T). I'm running a 7cell split pack elite 1500. The battery is maybe 2 months old with roughly 10-12 charges put through it. Just within the last week the truck seems to run really slowly even on a fully charged batt. I can no longer make it up the front steps. It will crawl the first lower step but then the second step it just hits and stops. Same goes for walls in the house, run up to it, hits wall, stops. Before it would hit the wall and run up it. As far as the battery goes I got a new Venom charger last week and in my hurry to use it forgot to change the amp rating and charged it at 3.0 instead of 1.5. Now the 4 cell side gets really hot and the 3 cell side stays cool. No noticeable swelling or melting of the shrink wrap. So my question is, is the battery shot? (I assume so) or is it possible that after 1 comp and 5-6 GTGs I've got enough grim built up to cause the truck to run slower and have a noticeable loss of power? (I'm guessing not) Also after about 20 mintues of run time the truck gets REALLY sluggish. I hook up the bat to the charger and only get maybe 50-60 back into and it says the batt is fully charged. Wanted a new 2cell lipo anyways but didn't want to have to throw away a pretty new battery to get one. Thanks for any info, Eric

What kind of voltage are you getting out of the pack, you'll likely see that you are down 1.2V? If there is visable heat damage to a cell it is pretty much toast and would recommend not trying to charge it again. Your best bet for saving the pack is to take the cells apart, figure out which ones are damaged, and which aren't and soldering new cells. Just remember, all of the cells too a shock with the over-amperage charge, so it is likely the rest of the cells will crap out soon.

This is why I went Lipo. I got tired of buying batteries. I run a 3 cell lipo now. A 55t motor is not hard on a battery but a 7T puller is. My son smoked a 10 cell 2/3 battery after about 25 charges. Mine lasted about 35 charges with a 55t motor. The worst part is buying a Lipo charger.

There is no need to go LIPO. It sounds like your battery is shot. Buy another battery with higher mah rating. You can get a 6 cell 1600mah saddle pack from maxamps for a good price then mount it over your front axle and your truck will crawl better. http://www.maxamps.com/MA-1600-6Cell-Crawler-Saddle.htm I have 4 of these and they are still going strong.

your batt. is more likely than not your issue. Id suggest TCS for Nimh, as they dont charge you extra for Deans, and they have the best prices period. also, im not familiar with the rooster, but when i bought my FXR second hand, it had a Voltage cut off set, so my NIMH would last for 5mins and then de what youre sayin. its probably your battery, but thats another thing to check.

I bought the rooster brand new and it worked fine until now. The lipo cutoff is not set. I went to the LHS and bought a common sense lipo today. Have to install deans after dinner and will check to see if that helps. I like the weight of the nimhs so I'll just order a couple more from TCS. Thanks for the help guys. I will post back when I'm done charging the new lipo and running it.

Put the deans on the rooster and the common sense. Charged the battery and now the truck runs just fine. Noticeable increase in wheel speed also. Moral of story---don't overcharge your battery packs. At $18 each at the LHS I think I will pick up 1-2 more so since they are only 800mah. Better to have extra charged lipos sitting in the pit box than having to recharge half way through. Thanks for the info folks
