What esc and motor are you running. Where do you want to mount the Lipo?

You will need a new ESC but your motor is fine. I would look into a 2 cell LIPO set up so you can mount it over your front axle.

How good is the Turnigy stuff?

I want to get Lipo too, but just recently bought 2 8cell saddle packs. For the cost of those, I could buy 2 of the Turnigy packs and the Turnigy 420 charger/balancer.

Not sure "how good" my turnigys are, but, they work and I'm impressed for the price. Im sure Maxamps(or any other name brand) are "better", but for a crawler you probably don't need some high end lipo. I got turnigy 3s 5000mah 25c in my slash and have no problems(except breaking driveshafts every run), and Zippy 3s 1500mah in my crawler.

If it wasn't for hobbycity(prices) I'd still be running nimh.

X2- I have the Tekin with the FX R its great. The drag brake is great. 3 cell lipo cut. You need the BEC because the Tekin does weird things with out it. I'm also running a 3 cell Lipo and a 45t Tekin motor and Its great.
