Default New(b) VP Dig Setup

Got my VP Dig in the mail the other day. Looks like with some rain this week I may have some time to start wrenching and get it installed. However, after looking through some dig threads and such I have a couple of questions. Sorry if these have already been answered some where else, but I am having difficulty finding my answers.

Stock, the spur gear faces the back of the truck. But with the dig installed the tranmission needs to face the other direction. Is everyone just flipping the wires on their motors, switching the direction of that channel on the Tx, or doing something else? What is the best setup for flipping the tranny and installing the dig to keep everything going the correct direction?

Sorry for the newbish question. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Pretty damn excited to get this installed.

Thanks!

quick and dirty solution- unbolt the skid from the chassis plate and flip the whole thing then switch the wires.

I thought mirroring the trans was more than just turning it around....

Here is a great post that will answer most if not all of your questions on the mirrored tranny topic. I know it helped me.

Mirror Imaged Transmission

I also found this youtube video of the vanquish build it shows the dig setup on the chassis.

This thread isn't really relevant when setting up a DIG.

When you install the DIG to the tranny and move the tranny to the right side of the chassis, it is effectively "mirrored".

Bottom line like others have said, switch your wires and you're good.

I got my VP DIG today. The Machine work is top notch. It is very small. Did I say the machine work is excellent? I have seen other friends DIG's and this is so well built.

Got the dig installed onto the trans last night but didn't have time to rape my buggy or MT for a servo yet.... hoping tonight I can get the servo mounted and the linkage done. Should be testing this weekend, but so far from what I can tell, the lever action looks like, it will be the awesome.

OK - I got everything installed. Just need to finish up the wiring and change a few things with my links...

Though now I have a new question.

I am using a 2pos 3rd channel radio. No biggie, 4wd and fwd/rear locked is all I want currently. My question is, what is the correct engagment points when setting up the End Points. I am using a JR Z590 servo for my dig. Seems to have plenty of torque. I am testing the shift points with the trans removed from the chassis and with my MIP driveline installed on both outputs and turning the drivelines by hand. When I shift it to 4WD, how hard should it be to get the dogs to engage? When not aligned, the servo is trying to push, but until the trans turn a little, then it seats properly. Should it be fairly easy to turn and get them to engage? Or should I set it up where it takes quite a bit force to turn the trans and get them to engage fully. Same question for when I shift it to rwd locked. Just want to understand what the best settings would be with out ruining the internals of the dig or the servo.

I'll try to get some pics tonight of how it is coming along.

Thanks!

OK - Got my beast together and running... The VP Hurtz is awesome! Just love it. Here are some pics I snapped.

I have noticed that since I put the Hurtz in, I am now experiencing some glitching... I swapped RX's, same thing, swapped ESC's, same thing, checked all my solder jobs, they look fine... pulled everything out of the rig, same thing...

Could the glitching be because I am not using a BEC besides the internal one on the rooster crawler? When I swapped ESC's, I did swap for another rooster crawler esc that was brand new out of the box... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

So the BEC will help with the glitching? I tried it with the dig servo unplugged as well and still got some glitching... Will order up though for the CC BEC.

And yeah, for the battery - it will go eventually... waiting for my superbrain 969 to give up the ghost before going to lipo... though lipo is in my future, just not sure when yet.

Thanks!
