| Maximize Steering Angle
Hi Guys. Trying to improve/maximize the steering angle for my AX10 but want to keep the same links. Any suggestions? I have the saddle battery pack in front axle and steering servo in between.. Found some used VP or RCP steering knuckles but doesnt know which one is good.

I've found VP or CKRC to give the most room. I think Egressor's knuckles will give you plenty of steering also. All depends on tie rod and draglink room, servo horn, servo location, etc.

| Thanks Gunnar! with VP or CKRC, would I still be able to retain the same AX10 steering links?

Most of the knuckles use the stock tierod length, the draglink, possibly. Sometimes the draglink might have to be a bit longer, but usually, the stock length works on that too.

The first limiter is the screws holding the C's on. If you replace the button head screws with counter sunk screws you can get a couple more degrees. Then the next limiting factor is the stub axle/dogbone joint. There's some threads on grinding out the stub axle, but then the pin on the dogbone comes out of engagement. I'm too chicken to do it. Seems like asking for broken parts to me. And that's using the stock knuckles. You don't gain anything with high steer knuckles other than they no longer hit the stock button head screw holding the C on. |

Don't need hi-steer knuckles, but they can make it easier. CKRC knucks, 3 Racing cvd's, inboarded shocks: VP knucks, 3 racing cvd's, inboarded shocks: VP knucks, 3Racing cvd's, no shocks: Last edited by gunnar; 07-20-2009 at 07:40 PM. Reason: whoops, center pic not dogbones, my bad |

overdrive your front axel with the optional gear sets. then you steer better, and can use dogbones so you dont snap them dinky lil CVD pins But you should get VP knuckles anyways |

Overdriving the front end does help relieve the pushing effect that locked axles induce, and can help somewhat with turns, but you just have to be careful when turning full lock with alot of steering angle. Turning sharply into a bind, or even turning sharply while digging will break cvd pins. The most I have been able to mod dogbones is around 40 degrees or so. What the larger steering angles help with is lining up for the next obstacle/gate. Sometimes you might not have enough room to dig-turn, or the terrain won't allow it, or you can't reverse. The main rule is you don't want to fully punch it when turning sharply. Last edited by gunnar; 07-21-2009 at 11:46 AM. |
