Default MIP CVD's 2nd best there is?

It's time for me to upgrade my steering. Is the MIp cvd the best there is beside the Felsenfest ax-10 cvd's (It'll put me in a poorhouse for a while if I get these. Beside by getting thses MIP (08100) Comes in a set of 4, which is enough for 2 rigs. I just wanted to make sure it is the 2nd best out there. If I had an endless cashflow, then I wouldn't bug you guys on this. Of course I'll snatch a full set of goodies from Felsenfest.

my take. i broke about ten pins in axial cvd's before i snapped one shaft, i've since busted eight MIP shafts without ever busting a pin. IMO the axial are stronger than MIP.

I much prefer Axial CVD's over MIPs.

Everyone I know that ran MIP replaced them within a week with either the Axial CV shafts or back to stock Axial bone and outdrive.

I run the Axial shafts...they have a bit of play in them due to the retaining ring over the joint, but so far I've only sheared one pin.

The MIP center shafts are a different story

I've always had fairly good luck with 3Racing cvd's. The RC4WD's aren't too bad either, sort of like an MIP. I've busted all of them, but they hold up pretty well for a "standard" cvd.

i had trouble with my mip cvd's until i made a couple of mods.
every thing was good until I went 3s lipo. I kept shearing the pins.
a friend gave me a fix and so far no worries.
take a riggid cold forged drill bit and cut it to size. also the set screws had a hard time holding the pin in place. take one end of the newly cut pin and ruff up the very end so you have to press the pin in all the way. try it

It's a old trick we use to do with TLT axles. You trim little off the cup area and rebevel the inside to give you more throw.

If you cut and regrind the stock stubs, what kind of steering angles can you get. I would want the most steering angle and to handle punishment, but on a budget. I'm digging up pennies to get a 2.4ghz radio for all my rc's at the current time. Im sick of glitching into GATES.

That's what I thought. I seen these tips before, but haven't done that yet.

Here is a pic of stock stubs(bottom), and modded ones, a little more angle can be gained. The top axle has .5mm grinded down, and a 90 degree countersink bit was used in the cup.

Just make sure not to let the pin out of the slot when adjusting end points, I've twisted a few axle housings when the axle torqued out of the cup.

Yes like gunnar posted, you gain some angle and it's a improvement over stock. And it's a cheap alternative to work with till you can get the Felsenfest CVD's.
