Question Pro Mud or in my case Snow Truck Racing

How much lipo and motor can an AX-10 Scorpion handle with the proper upgrades?
Here in Alaska we have snow for like 8 months of the year and a few of us are considering "snow" drags. Just like the mud drags.

(More on this at a later date. I haven't wrapped my mind around the whole "go slow" thing...........I'm close!)

Something like this with tires for snow.

I assume wheel speed and the proper traction is key to any liquefied race.
If the
AX-10 Scorpion can not handle the task of above said style truck, could you point me to one that can?

the ax10 compnents will handle if just fine, you will need a good ESC

(check out holmestorque master http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...4&cat=0&page=1)

a good motor, like the cobalt pullers from holmes (http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...&cat=17&page=1) or worrior motors, (http://www.jpcustomrcs.com/Motors.html )

and a good lipo, the higer the voltage the more wheel speed u will get, but the HH torque master will take up to 6s!! so no worries there

how ever if you want to keep this thing lookin like the real trucks check out the scx10 by axial, its pretty much the same compnesnts as the ax10 except its gor a scale chassis and shorter shocks.

no problem, the beauty with the above set up is it will work from ur snow drags and simply by changin the pinion gear on the motor it will work for crawling as well! so when u do get hooked on the goin slow stuff it wont be a big expense to do so

Depending on how fast you want to go you will have to do some significant upgrades. HD gears is the axles, upgraded lockers, prehaps alloy/steel gears in the tranny, new tranny outdrives, stiffer motor plate. New driveshafts, straight axles.

I have fully considered all the upgrades ( & cost ) this will entail. Right now Im stumped on what chassis to use.

Thanks for your input.

from what i know of RC and going fast, i think you might just want to stick with the scx10 frame. it looks robust and meant more to keep things strait versus letting the axles wander and wonderful wall crawling angles.

If you are looking to go fast and have exp in big trucks you will know the importance of using the proper 4 link set up and style. Also thought it would be neat to build up a set of anti-hop bars on a scale spring set up.

It seems to me the axial trans doesn't handle high speed all that well. They get hot pretty quick. Don't get me wrong, the axial trans is a great crawler trans, but I'd advise a VXL stampede trans if you want to go fast. It's meant to go fast and is pretty much bulletproof with the steel gears. I think your weak link is gonna be driveshafts, I'd upgrade to maxx shafts for that. Otherwise it should hold up fine as long as you shim the diffs right and use good grease

We have a couple of guys running VXL's in Axial's. Recommend Mip drive shafts, metal gears in trans and metal trans outputs. They call the Sandwackers, Sandchuckers or my favorite is Sandthrower. They drive them at the beach. Here is a link on RC short course.

I bought a SCX10 on ebay that had a Traxxas EVX ESC that runs on 14.4 volts to a little stock can motor. I didn't run it much that way but it was holding up fine. I say build it and beat it!!!
