Shocks keep leaking

Hello I have recently run into a problem with my shocks leaking/falling apart. The nut that holds the lower 2 o-rings keeps falling off on all of the shocks. It's new and it hadn't even seen rocks yet. I'm just driving it around the living room until my crawling course is finished. Did I set the shocks up wrong? I filled them to the top with 30wt oil, got the air out of them, then made sure they are all tight. Please help I would love to crawl it soon.

I think you need to try bleeding your shocks properly. The only way those bottom seal caps blow out like that is if you have too much oil in the shocl before you screw the top on. When the shock is compressed, there is no place for the oil to displace to and the seals blow out.

You said you filled them to the top and made sure there was no air in them, but you never mention bleeding out the excess shock oil.

After filling them to the top like you said you did, clear the air from under the piston. Screw the top shock cap on till it's almost snug. Compress the shock a few times. Fully extend the shock, then tighten down the shock caps.

Most likely though, your shock seal caps and/or shock bodies are stripped already so you'll probably have to get new ones.

SO BE SURE TO BLEED YOUR SHOCKS PROPERLY BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN UP THE TOP CAPS OR YOU WILL BLOW THE SEAL AGAIN.

NOTE: teflon tape will not work. It'll reduce the actual surface area that the threads have on each other and wil mostly likely make the problem worse.

If they are the stock axial shocks your best option to not get oil all over your carpet is to pick up a set of the traxxas XXL ultra shocks. You can get them for real cheap off ebay and you can either put some fuel tubing in the top and run them or do the shock cap mod and really bring them to life. I was running a set of the ultra shocks from a jato on my last rig and ran them for almost a year before they neede to be rebuilt, and even then they were still nearly perfect.

the green slime helps, but Along with most people I never was able to make the stock shocks perform to the level they need to.

If you got the money the losi crawler shocks and the axial comp shocks are nice too.

Rule #1: Don't overtighten them, they're plastic.
Hand tight with a tiny pliar snug is all you need.

If they're coming apart, put a tiny bit of silicon
on the threads and it will seal it and keep it tight.

If it still doesn't work then you messed them up.

Good news they are not striped and I made sure to bleed them correctly. We will see how it works tomorrow.

what you may have to do is buy yourself a good set of aluminum shocks. that always solves the problem. spend the money once and you won't regret it.

I had the same problem and could never completely fit it. So i got a set of ally HR dual action shocks for fairly cheep and they are awesome IMO. the option of two seprate springs per shock gives ample tuning and also the bodies are threaded

yes. that grease that was used to seal the top of the cap.
