I don't know why delrin wouldn't work. JPCustoms has a new bodiless delrin chassis that is contoured, though not to the extent that this one is. For that matter, it could still be flat sided and work just fine.

This really isn't as heavy as it looks, and handles well enough, but I don't have the heart to do any serious wheeling with it yet.

I love what you've done. The bends really give it a good 3D shape.

I wasn't too worried about the weight, just that aluminum might stick more to rocks, where delrin would slide.

As a side note, i set the picture of your rig on the rocks as my background on my computer. gets me inspired just staring at it.

You're supposed to keep the shiny side up!

Hooray! My first motivational build! Be sure and post pics of your work too.

Great build, I have built a lot of chassis and I appreciate the work you have done here, my question is how did you get that nice shine on the chassis plates. Maybe I missed I missed that post. Thanks, Adam

Thanks. I put a 6" polishing wheel on my bench grinder. I skipped that step in the build because its not terribly interesting.

I have been reading that an aluminum chassis has a good stiffness-to-weight ratio...what are the pros/cons of an aluminum chassis...conversely, what are the pros/cons of a delrin chassis?

Thanks...and great job!

That really depends on what you want to do with the materials. Obviously aluminum is much more rigid than delrin, so you keep that in mind when you design or build.

Delrin will slide over surfaces and doesn't show much wear. Aluminum tends to grab on the rough stuff, and gouges quite easily making it even less likely to slide.

There is much more to these two materials, but this is what I had right off the top of my head.

Duuuuuuuude,,,Top Notch write up,,,Top five class A information and format. Clean and concise.

This thread should inspire a yearly award for build threads voted on by members.

I too work a lot with Aluminum, usually 6061 because of my designs I need a bit more rigidity and shear strength but you have inspred me to look at 5052 for a couple of my designs.

You think of a reasonable price and toss it out in the FS section.

Thanks, I've heard that this thread was inspiring people to go build something, I hope thats the case.

On a side note, I'm slightly dissapointed that I've only had one offer on it. Oh well.
