gearing for under driving and over driving the diffs what gearing would you guys recomend for overdriving my front diff and under driving my rear for my ax 10 |
Only do 1. I suggest the Axial Underdrive gears for the rear, helps torque twist and help foward "pulling". |
As far as over driving the front/under driving the rear. Doing both is to much IMO. I think stock ratio in the rear with an overdrive front is best. Gearing at the tranny, that's really hard to nail down. Depending on motor, voltage, trucks RTR weight, terrain and drivers preference....what you end up running can really be skewed. Personally, all the Axial tranny's I have going are geared with an 18t pinion and an 81t spur. For me,that's the sweet spot. One truck is running a 10t puller, the other is running a 20t Holmes Hobbies handwound. They both have good bottom end power and good wheel speed. In the end,I think it's best really to buy a handful of options and tune it till your happy. Pinions,I'd buy a 15,16,17 and 18 Spurs, stock is 87. That works well for allot of people. Get it close with the pinions. You may find one pinion a hair to slow and another a hair to fast for your taste. If you need to tweak it just a little more, change it with a few more or less on the spur."thumbsup" |
thanks for the info guys thats a huge help and were would you be able to get the axial under drive kit from |

RCP Crawlers carries the overdrive and underdrive gears. They are listed in the AX-10 section. |
thanks for that |
A 90t spur and 12t pinion, Holmes 30t motor 3 cell lipo. Axle is overdriven front and underdriven in the rear, make sure you have metal gears in the tranny. |
under drive the rear I just finished mine I love it works awesome! |
cool im running the r2 gearbox so strengths not a problem and does anyone know the gearing for the r2 |

Unless I missed it,you never stated the motor you were planning or the voltage. I think you'll need pinions in the 16t-20t range. The short while I ran an R2,with a 1000kv outrunner,I was running an 18t pinion and it was to slow. With an 8 cell NiMH pack,it was super slow. With a 3 cell lipo,it was better. If we knew the motor and voltage your planning,we could get a better idea on what gear might work."thumbsup" |
I run over and under, with rs pro/21.5 and 20 tooth pinion. The trigger is alittle touchie, great low end and plenty of speed. I love the way the gears work out here on the western slope of Co. Great climbing, and turning, I don't have to use the VP dig as much. |
