Default Rear differential issues?

So, I notice that my rear wheels don't spin when I get a little bound up. So I start by lifting the front wheels a bit and hold the crawler back to see how much power it takes to make the rear wheels slip. With only a little throttle, the wheels offer no resistance and either the wheel hexes are gone or the differential has a problem. The driveshaft turns and I have previously CA glued one of the wheel hexes. Since both wheel are slipping, I think the rear diff is shot. Thoughts? Am I wrong?

This is a stock Axial and stock diff.

Yes air I agree its really a simple set up and I like to do it right away anyways and grease stuff real good (doesn't seem like they put much in them when they assemble) You still have your manuel don't you ? it has an exploded view in it or you can download it from the axial site

IMO the Axial axles are super simple! they take all of 15 min to take apart, clean, regrease/ replace a part, and put back together!

I just had rebuilt the shocks and taken apart the rear section a couple of times and I really didn't want to do it again... basically, I was lazy.
I will be taking apart the rear axle to run a underdrive gear set. Should I replace the locker at that point also or are they usually good to go?

It should be good to go for a long time unless you have sheared it off or something just regrease ring and pinion real good after you replace them good luck (and get used to tinkering it's just part of the hobby) make shure your shimmed correctly when you do the ring and pinion swap

Yes. Your axle should have the round green aluminium lockers, and should be replaced with the gray cross lockers.

Not always. Both the ARTR and the RTR I bought had the grays.
