Thats not fair to say out of the box there about the same...but who just buys something and dose'nt mess around with it. A couple of tweeks here and there and the ax-10 smokes the scx-10 there both very cool but come on! Find out what you want to do and jump in with both feet and have a blast seeing what you can do with your rig. (That the engineering we all have in side us.)

At this point start off with an ARTR, or wait for the XR10.

Fixed it for ya! ^^^^^

It still depends on what your more interested in, more scale or comp. Both are great rigs with tons of support.

I agree that it's apples to oranges.
with only the springs changed I ran my ax10 with some stock Honchos and quickly found they couldn't keep up on big rocks.

With my rig customized there is no way any scx will keep up on big rocks. Of course at this point rather than list changes it's easier to list the stock parts I have left: transmission, axles, and shock housings. That may seem like a waste but its not, since I bought an old beat-up rig for less than what I could have bought those parts for.

On the other hand I'm tempted to buy an scx now, but it's as much for the fun of the build as for driving.

Glad someone pointed this out.

Because it's still interesting, and some of us weren't here 7 months ago.

And It means that there are people that do use the search engine instead of just starting a new thread. well done. As for the comparison, after months of use I find the scx more of my taste for crawling than the ax. I rather have less performance and more looks. If I wanted pure performance I wouldn't buy an ax, but a mea crawler.

cant really compare the 2. it only comes down to wheather you like to be like godzilla and see a scaler in action, or climb up rocks and get aggressive with rocks.

also, depends on your location and what local guys run sometimes.
