Default Checking possible interest in new chassis

I've been working on this for awhile, and was finally able to get something done on Friday. It uses the same geometry as the FF-4 (some of you may notice that), but in a bodiless design. I'm going to build this up soon, but thought I would post some pictures of just the chassis first.

If there is enough interest in this, I'll do a run of parts....not sure on the price, but it should be competitive.

This is prototype only, and will more than likely change as it gets run. Post up any thoughts...I'm always open to ideas, suggestions and criticism.

I'm just getting into the crawlers, and I am thinking of doing the same, only in a truck profile.. I think I'm going to do mine in graphite... or graphite skinned alum..

Looks good..

Son of a....

How about just a top half that can be bolted onto the existing F & FF chassis?

Is that PC aluminum?? Would be considerably lighter in delrin, and more resilient also.

I'm going to do a top half on my x-crawler.. I'm also interested to know material,, I would lean toward a metal, with a composite skin, I'm thinking a full composite will be too lite.. Is this the wrong way to think on a crawler?

Nice! I'd ad in some chassis supports between where the top attaches to the chassis. That looks like a week point during a tumble. Just my .02, but it looks really nice as always.

I really like it, I will say it is kinda similar to a Beetlejuice though.

Roll with it!

It might be an eye trick...It's actually just a hair over legal length...that might be more apparent when it has wheels under it.

Still working on that, but I always strive to give the fairest price I can. I will be crunching the numbers to keep the price of this one fair.

I actually thought of offering that as an option, but I think there are only a few people like you that could pull off a retro fit like that. But then again, you make your own chassis' anyway, so for you it's pretty simple...not always the case for everyone else

Yes, it is PC 6061-T6 aluminum. Like I said, it is a prototype, so I built with what I had. I buy 1/8" aluminum in bulk, so I had it sitting around. I do plan on trying Delrin, and comparing weight to strength. Could go either way.

I do, but I already have plans with those I usually test with. Like my other designs, this will change before it becomes available. My timeframe would be before the end of June if there is enough interest.

Thanks Krakker...I wanted to get one built to see where I had room to add strength. Once I get a transmission, and links bolted up, I'll have a better idea of what can be done.

Thanks Tom, but you should wait until you see the flat black first

I always post in the AX-10 section, but there really is no reason not to bolt up anything you want to it. Jeremy has a great looking FF-4 build in the TLT section.

A big fear of mine was looking too similar to a Beetlejuice...I was sure someone would mention that. My goal was to continue on with the frame/cab forward idea, and make a chassis that leaned in that direction. This chassis is modeled after an FF-4, with a body designed around it. I'd like to hear from krawlfreak, or someone from Y-town to make sure I'm not stepping on any toes.

One question I have for you Patrick, is your interpretation of the wording "to resemble a cockpit". I'm sure I have all my other measurements correct, but the wording of this section of the rule is open to interpretation. I wanted it to look like a modern jet fighter, but that might not relate well when it comes to crawlers.

I was thinking of just the upper portion and bolt it right on the chassis. No cutting or anything.

If you aren't going to do it, I guess I will. Maybe we can collaborate.

Consider me interested! I love the FF4 and cannot for the life of me find a shell that is worthy as far as looks and comps well.

I'll take a "top" cut out of delrin. I will make it fit the FF-4 Looks good

Juan, maybe a bit tall? Bodiless minimum height is 3.75", also make sure it has the minimum 1" from where the hood and windshield come together. I have been stewing on an idea, but this might change that
