| Axial AX10, Halo Warthog Build.
This is a small thread of a fun project. It started life as an axial ax10 and is now on its way to becoming a warthog. I picked up the warthog toy at Toys R Us for about 35$. The way i see it is that's about the cost of a new body before paint so i snatched it up. I started by dismantling the toy and found that with a little modification is would fit nicely. I have Pro-Line flat iron tires on order and cant wait to see what they look like on the rig. I have 4ws and am considering doing a droop setup to get it a little lower onto the axles.

The solution was found!...by my fiance..... It cant be helped shes a mechanical engineer. i was looking puzzled at it when she came in the room, pointed at the spare ball links and said "just use those". It was like a eureka moment. by bolting them to the frame and screwing them into the body it works perfectly. now to see how long they last.

Awesome, can't wait to see it all done. Can you give me the details on the droop set up? I just got the TCS Edge chassis and I'm considering doing the same. I'm not sure exaclty how it works, still researching. Any of your input would be helpful. Good luck with the build. |

I was going to ask about droop setups right now... i don't know much about it either but would love it if someone would post about it. I got the Pro-Line tires and put them on. It looks awesome, but the body needs to be closer to the wheels. Once i get the droop all figured out I'll need to move some of the electronics around. |

I heard Master Chief gets nose bleeds at high altitudes. Take some time and browse through the scale section to get some ideas on how to get that body down to a proper level. |

Also, droop is basically removing the springs and letting the shocks compress fully. You will want to insert small springs inside the shocks to help them return to a compressed state. You can find those springs online, or head to your local hardware store and pick up a few packs that look like they will fit. A little experimentation will be mandatory to find a good setup.

I gotta say, the best way to make this work and look like it should is to loose that Axail chassis. it can be done to by much more scale looking and work like it should. I went to toys R Us yesterday and seen that body, but seen you already had the same idea.

In my humble opinion droop set ups are terrible. You loose all clearance and drag the belly of the truck on everything. It gives you a low center of gravity it sucks for crawling. I would leave it sprung and lower the body. The lower you can get it the better, just be sure to leave enough room for the rig to articulate properly without the tires hitting the body.

| Droop takes more tuning to get right (and less forgiving when wrong) than a sprung setup does. Once its dialed in it works great, though most people don't have the patience to get that far.

Start hacking that body to make it sit WAY!!!!!! lower. Looks super silly (trying to be nice here) sitting up so high. The body should cover the chassis just like the stock body does. Bust out the dremmel and go to town on it. It will look great if you can get the body A LOT lower. |

After looking at your pictures it seems simple to me. Cut slits in the body and notches where the shocks are (from underneath) with a cutting wheel and slide the body down. Your going to have to hack the hell out of the body to get it to work but once its fitted you can reinforce the body with styrene if needed.

So new update, decided to try a different motor in the rig.... bad call.... ESC went up in a poof of smoke . While i was waiting and trying to pick out a new ESC i got a set of XR10 rims and put them on. They look sharp but have a different offset than the ax10 rims. a little trim and shaving and they fit like a glove. i also went back to the regular suspension set up but swapped the mounting position for the shock/link at the axle. i also got some LED's set up in the body. I went to the LHS and asked about warranty on the old ESC, but i have had it for too long. i got a deal from the owner on a once used Novak Goat Crawler Brushless motor and ESC for a really great deal. I installed them and what a difference it made, nice smooth throttle response, great torque, and a nice top speed to boot.

It's been a while since I have worked on this project, got an scx10 tr chassis with links on ebay. plan on getting this new chassis in the warthog body with a better droop setup and maybe some 1.9 flatirons. i will update hopefully later in the week when i get the chassis.
