MIP's discontinued

I was on MIP's website and they are showing that they are going to discontinue the driveshaft set for the ax-10.
mip 8101
They are still going to make the set for dig units.

Might want to change the title to properly state that. I came in thinking they were going out of biz.

I think we're seeing the leading edge of fading away from AX to XR platforms. It'll be a trickle for a while, with especially specialty products, to reach a point where the AX has gone it's way, and new tech is the name of the game. At least one Axial version of the AX is discontinued.

That's not saying there isn't a ton of life left in the 'ol AX! Axial and many other 3rd party vendors will continue to support it for at least a couple more years (before the parts start becoming harder to find).

I would have thought with the popularity of the scx-10 that this is the last thing they would have done.

Yes me too, the Axial drive train is by far the most popular for most scale builders. MIP would be shotting themselves in the foot to discontinue them IMO, they are by far the best drivelines out there.

My sentiments exactly, I know a few people that just bought the SCX but is it a different part number at all even though the same parts. I just noticed today that the Integy transmission case for the AX and SCX are different part numbers yet the same part. Only difference the SCX part number includes the motor plate where as the AX transmission does not, the skid plate includes the motor plate for the AX10 (just an example).

Hopefully they are discontinuing it because they are releasing a HD unit. I think they did this w/ the slash 4x4 shafts, they are only prodcing the HD units for them now (heard that at the LHS)

I will be needing some beefy shafts soon, so i hope i am right :badger:

looks like illbe ordereing a new set and a few rebuild kits. i was pi$$ed when mip quit making the axial cvd's. you can still buy the parts for the cvd's to make a set off their website but it's close to 60$ for a complete set. so you could still get a complete set of long shafts. you'd just have to pay a little more. i have never had any problems with any product from mip. from bashers, racers to crawlers.

Edit:

My bad...I mentioned Junfac, but I was mistaken. I bought the ThunderTech driveshafts. They are identical.

Here is the link to them on TCS.

I've sent an email to MIP telling them how good their products are and to keep supporting RC crawling. I'd advise you do the same. Here's the contact link

i was just on rc4wd's website and i think i am just going to buy some punisher shafts next. my uncle has them on his willy's jeep for over a year and they are still holding up without problems.

Aggie01 11-18-2010 01:26 AM

I just got my MIP's today. Ordered them from AMain on Monday. They still show to have them in stock. Might want to hurry"thumbsup"

I will agree with KC, junfac shafts are just as good and cheaper than MIPs. I still have a set of the OG SS ones and they are still going strong.
