Default Sniper4370's GC-2 build/rebuild

This will be my "build" thread, but really more of a rebuild. With a three week old baby and money being tight as it is, it will be a slow process.

I just picked this up from a member here. Got a good deal on it and after all it took to get it here it was well worth it IMO.

It has a GC2 chassis, VF dig and misc. other goodies of unknown mfg. or origin. I am posting pics and if anyone has some knowledge as to mfg. of the wheels, shocks, or other aluminum goodies I would appreciate knowing. I still need parts to get it running, such as a steering servo and motor. I already have a Mamba Max, also purchased from a member. I will be using my existing radio/rx, a JRXR3. I believe I can get it to operate the dig. My first plan of attack is to pull it mostly apart, clean, check and rebuild what needs work. The chassis side plates and especially the skid are pretty beat, but will work for now. I want to try my hand at making some delrin lowers at some point soon.

Any advice on setup or changes I should make, they will be welcomed. I am new to RC crawling, but not to RC. I have raced trucks and touring cars in the past. In fact, I have some stuff I will be posting for sale or trade to help get this thing going.

On to the pics.

Wheels have weights that bolt to the beadlock rings.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for lookin

Thanks, I have read good things about Austins chassis designs. May get a GC3 as a replacement at some point. It is definitely a used truck, but for the $$ I couldn't pass it up.

Well the shocks look like Traxxas big bores, probably 4".

I've seen the rims before but don't know what they're called.

I think the rear 4-link plate comes with the chassis.(not for sure)

Here is a better pic of the wheel, it's the rear w/o weight.

I believe you are correct the front a rear plates come with the chassis.

I believe ive seen those rims on some other builds, I think more in the scaler section, but keep looking at other's build threads and try to find em.

For a motor I would suggest going with a hand wound motor in the 35t range.

Also, get a set of HB rovers or sedona tires in white compound.(they're amazing)

I was thinking of those or Losi Boss Claws.

For a servo your gonna want one in the 300+ oz of torque range with titanium gears also.

Yeah, been trying to read up on servos. Just can't afford or justify the cost on most of them atm. Was thinking of a HH hand wound OR the HH Revolver Black brushless, as I'm pretty bad about neglecting motors.

I'd go with the hh. I hear even the none handwound is pretty good and is like half the cost.

You just have to look around on the right websites and check your LHS. For anyone on a budget, hobbyking.com has pretty good products at a very low cost. I'd suggest oredering from them.

Like check out this servo:http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=9983

The rims look like JConcepts Tense beadlocks, minus the center caps.

It looks like one of the driveshafts plastic yokes is twisted, that will be the first one to let go. Just mentioning it incase you didn't see that.

There is a Revolver in the classifieds for $20 shipped, may be worth a shot.

That Turnigy is one I had read about and looked at. As for LHS, the closest one doesn't have much. There is a BIG one that is like a 45 min. drive. I go there when I can to look around.

Thanks, I got some spares in the deal, but noticed one of them is twisted also. Looking into MIP's

Yeah you are right on the wheels, just looked them up. Do the center caps do anything other that looks?

Revolvers have buttloads of torque, but can cog pretty bad at really low throttle. I'd stick with a HH brushed.

Yup. I've got the 5t, 14t, and mini. Also a 35t handwound. All are awesome motors.

Well the cheap Revolver is gone from the classifieds. After having to move my mother-in-law back into the house, I was too late. If anyone has a motor they want to donate to the cause.... J/K I'll post up some stuff to try and sell or trade for parts I need.
