Rowdy's Carbon fiber GC-3A
 

I got the GC-3A chassis back in August and have loved it ever since. After finishing second on a pretty regular basis in the sportsman class with my state club VARCOR I finally got 1st with it last weekend. Myself along with some guys I crawl with are amazed at how well this rig climbs, I believe it's the best AX10 chassis out there. I had heard from some guys that went to this years nationals that Austin Dunn had a pretty trick bta setup on his rig, and after seeing Turbofest's sportsman build with his awesome bta which I hear is similiar i decided to give it a try. I had the Axial bta setup on before I got the GC-3A, but it does'nt work with this chassis. I have been running a stock style steering setup since I got this chassis, and have always hated having all that crap out front. Here's the list of spec's, and I will have pic's up later after I get the new pieces of the bta mounted up.

WHEELS- VP SLW's V1 .725 hubs out front, .600 hubs on the rear
TIRES- white dot Rovers
CVD'S- Super 300's
Trans- Loaded with Robinson Racing metal gears
ESC- Novak Goat 3s
MOTOR- Novak 18.5T brushless crawler
SERVO- Hitec 7950
SHOCKS- Traxxas bigbores
SPRINGS- Losi golds up front, Losi whites out back
KNUCKLES & C's- Axial
BODY- Proline Crowd Pleaser
AXIAL over & under drive gears
I run 14.4oz wheel, tire, foam, and lead up front, and 6.6oz wheel, tire, and foam with no lead out back. Thats each wheel. Thanks for looking and there's more to come including pics. "thumbsup"

just read your spec's 14.4 oz front wheels is that about the norm

I'm interested to see what you come up with as far as the steering goes. I expect to have a GC-3A rolling by the end of the weekend. "thumbsup"

I've seen this rig run. It reaches out and grabs traction from the air. Im gonna figure out how one day.

Different strokes for different folkes, works for me but everyone has their own preferences. Trial and error is going to be your best way to find a weight that works for you. "thumbsup"

Here are the pics! Did'nt have time today to get the steering links done, but the servo mount is finished and fits well. I was going to make a front axle battery mount but was told thats not where Austin put his. If anyone would like to share that info with me it would be nice. I have been thinking but am not smart enough to figure out where else it could go? Anyway here are the pics try not to be to harsh. "thumbsup"

Looks good, only other place for battery is rear links or rear axle. Front probably be the best."thumbsup"

Truck is looking ok but I'm liking that servo mount. I thought you were taking the brushless off for a 35t motor and a fxr.

I agree.
I was, and still might but I'm loving the power of the brushless. Between the 300's, over & under gears, and brushless power this sportsman rig turns on a dime.

Austin does not run his on the back. Based on the pics I see of your setup, his battery mounting location wouldn't work for you anyways. I suggest you put the battery wherever it works best for you.

I think I am going to try a different approach on the bta. I am going to bend the servo mount up 90 degrees and put the battery on the front upper links behind the servo. I am not sure it will work but there's only one way to find out. "thumbsup"

Well the 90 degree vertical servo mount idea did'nt work. I did'nt think it would but I gave it a shot anyway. It interferes with the body too much during articulation. Side to side articulation is ok, but when you compress both sides of the front it hits too bad. Hey, maybe if I cut a hole in the hood it would work :lmao:. It kinda looks like the mount I made yesterday has a boner :lmao:. Anyway since I did it I guess I will show a pic.

Ok, back to the flat mount idea but with the servo upside down (servo horn down) Will that work or is there not enough room? Just throwing ideas around.

The way you first had it was pretty close the way that Austin has his. (or at lest the way his was the last time I saw it. One difference though is that he had his more offset to the left. More kinda (in between) the drive shaft and the lower link.
