Yes, a quality handwound 35t motor will be better. Holmes Hobbies and Brood make excellent motors. 35t gives you plenty of torque and all the wheel speed you will ever need. |

45 turn holmes handwound on 4S lipo. Nothin smoother, and all the power and speed you ever need. But that said im running a 480 size puller with a 12 turn armature in my axial, but there hard to come by these days. TOM |

55t motors work ok....if your running 6s lipo's. I've run 10t pullers for a long time, awesome little motors. All the trucks in my shop now are running either 20t hand wounds or 35t hand wounds. Perfect IMHO. A 55t, unless high voltage is used, lack the snap needed to bump up ledges or hop across gaps. |

Standard gearing is fine. 87t spur and 14t pinion.

I always ran 18/81 in my Axial with a 35t hand wound on a 3 cell lipo.

I have the same setup. So a 35t will make a huge improvement over a 55t with the same battery used on both. I'm just running a nimh 8cell 1500 mah. I will be looking into a 35t soon if this is the case. I can only run 2c lipo with the rooster i have, is that still an improvemnet over the 8cell?

I've been a 35T fan in my trucks for some time.

It's really hard to say. Allot depends on terrain, your driving style, gearing and vehicle weight. In my old Axial with a 35t, I could dump a battery in 10 min or less just keeping it pinned, or I could make that pack run for an hour or longer just easing around my rock garden. Not sure what your battery and charger set up is. If nothing changes in the car except the motor, with a better battery and charger, you could possibly see longer run times. The 2 chargers I use and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone are the Hyperion EOS0606I AC/DC and the Hyperion EOS0606I DC. The batteries I'm running in everything right now are the Holmes Hobbies 35C 1300's | |
