Vf dig+fastback=clearance troubles

I installed my new VF dig into my Fastback and the rear of the dig housing is contacting the chassis. I have thought about adding a spacer to the four points where the skid meets the chassis, but I would then need to add spacers the the cab as well as cut new cross braces. I was thinking about trimming the chassis slightly, or possibly the dig itself, I need just shy of a 1/4" more room. I have also played around with the idea of putting a small spacer under the tranny, any input is welcomed.

A quarter-inch is quite a lot, I don't think clearancing the dig case and the chassis will give you enough room. You sure it is that much? You could probably grind 1/16" into the dig case, maybe more, it is thickest in that corner. You could also take a small amount off the inside of the chassis plate, but I wouldn't grind too far. Not the answer you want to hear, but I'm sure a VP dig would fit fine, with no grinding at all.

I way over estimated the room that I needed, its less than an 1/8th" that's needed. I made a small spacer from a DVD case, not sure of the thickness, I put two of them together. I gave me just enough room without screwing up my COG too badly. I may try to clearance the case a bit too.

This build is using a VF dig in a AX10 Moonbuggy build he did some serious grinding to get clearance for lower link movement it shows how much material can be removed.

Ahhhhh dang! I didn't try it with the lower links on yet, I took the grinder to it this morning to make room for the chassis. I didn't think about the lower links, it does look like there's plenty of material to take from though. If everything went together smoothly, I would need to find a new hobby, that's why I love these things.

Way to have a good attitude about having to fab/mod to make things fit that's a good quality a lot of folks around here could learn from you
Go ahead and clearance the dig unit, there is plenty of material to remove, and even if you do have to go all the way through the case for some reason, you can seal it back up easily to keep grit out. You won't damage the structural integrity of the case unless you get crazy with the dremel.

Dremel? That's way too much finesse, I used a bench grinder! I just clearanced the rear of the case for the lower links, its all good now, its a shame to have to grind on such a pretty piece though. I did use a dremel for a spot or two, it came out real nice! The servo horn is contacting the side of the cab, that's my next project.
