Knowing how castle underrates their ESC's you maybe able to get 3s out of it. We used to put 4s through the Mamba Max without issue. Of course you will want to use an external bec if trying 3s as the unit in the AE2 is most likely linear and would not like 3s.

Im with you, I bet it will run 3s with a bec. I sure wish they would have put these out about a year ago, with all the other new electronics. :-(

question will be... how they gonna move all the old kits in stock. price reduction?????
I have no need for this new version but think it's a great step in the right direction. even though the vehicles are rtr these days the rtr gear usually lasts less than a month. not a very encouraging way to get people into the hobby.
dropping $200+ on an rc car is exspensive for people that want in this hobby to understand..... then a month or sooner stuff starts to die off and then it's decision time. spend more loot or give up on hobby.

Are they tested at all prior to shipping?

Here's the axial press release page on the ESC:

http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/Axial_AE-2-ESC.html

The rpp link is to the "salvage yard" page. None of the items in the "salvage yard" come with any warranty because they are coming off the RTC, rather than being sold seperately.

I understand that they are salvage items, I'm just wondering if they have tested them at all.

I'm going to guess that the Losi unit does not have a drag brake feature, and its probably not as tunable as the AE-2.

Well, if it is anything like the sidewinder, then it would not matter 2S or 3S...it would simply have a setting for a particular voltage cutoff per cell. Simple enough.

The Losi one does have a crawler drag brake setting, 2 cell lipo, instant forward and reverse, just like the AE-2

I didn't know that. I assumed that since it had worm gears it wouldn't have or need an esc with a drag brake.

You are correct. Being worm driven it dosent need drag brake. That would be stupid for losi toput more money into their esc's to put it in a truck that dosent need the drag brake. The losi esc might say it has drag brake, but I highly doubt that it is even as strong as a castle drag brake.

I didn't read where Losi said it had a drag brake, but instead a "crawler" setting, which I would assume to be instant f to r.

I highly doubt the crawler setting has drag brake. It's more likely it is only instant reverse (which is why it says not to use crawler setting on non-crawlers.)

Will someone with the Losi ESC toss it on an AX10 and see if it has real drag brake? Either way, I don't think it is as strong as the brake on the Castle Products.

It does have drag brake. 1st off if you run it in a LNC with the crawler setting when you let off the throttle it stops, where as on the other settings it will roll a little before stopping. I put it in my Honcho and it does have drag brake
