Kinda rear steer?

I got a buddy who's ax only goes in reverse. Is the esc a good place to start on this? Likely chance that the controler or reciever isn't send or picking up signal? Thanks

What ESC? What are the trim settings on the Tx?

If you have a reciever pack you could plug a servo into the throttle slot and see if it moves forward and back when you move the throttle. That will tell you what is a miss.

What esc is it? sounds like it could be a forward only unit. Or was it working then stopped?
