I think I will upgrade the hubs and knuckles off the bat and check out the steering. Are the Rok Loks a bad tire????

Oh yeah, this truck kicks asses

But ax10 is just the right one to start with, and improve your driving skills. After you are familiar with all "how to", you can step forward with XR.
I'm just dreaming of it, but i understand, that i have to learn to crawl first and my rig is just what i need at the moment.
Drive and experiment with the setup, but as said before do it step by step.
Do one improvement at a time. Then check, then the next step. Otherwise, in case you change too much, you will not be able to figure out the possible prob.

Rock lox are for scalers. Use the stock hammers first. Then go with rovers or sedonas.
You can cut hammers a bit to make their performance a bit better

You will have to have a 3 channel radio to use dig, so I would hold off on that for now.

you will and for around $100-$150 you can get a really nice and strong servo! id look at the Hi-tec line up and start looking at ones with oher 200oz of tq to start with, but as usual, the more the marrier! something like a 7955

also the rok loxs are not a bad tire, just there are betters out there for crawling, its a scale tire

Skip that and buy the new Gatekeeper GC-3A chassis kit that comes with links, rod ends and all....just swap the parts from your AX-10. Way better chassis and you get rid of the ugly green. Lipos, good lipo charger and put the battery between front links just behind the servo or on the front axle.

Hi-Tec 985 is a great non-digital servo with lots of power.

Buy just the truck and forget the upgrades for now!! While you are waiting for it to show up, read this all the way through:

K.O.M's Newbie Comp Build

After it shows up, drive it, read the above link again, drive it, etc., etc...

Don't buy parts, just to buy parts. Know why you are buying them and what to expect out of them. The most important thing to do right now is drive!

Good luck

Geeze guys. Lol.

"No no no. GO and do this FIRST......"

"^^ Nuh uh. GO and buy this first...."

"Nope. Buy it and then upgrade....."

LOL. I really like that GateKeeper Chassis kit. That is pretty kick a**. That puts me at ~$300 and now I can go and pick up a kick a** servo and a good battery (buddy has quick charger) and upgrade one or two things on the front axle. I think that sounds like a good plan. Keep in mind fellas that I have had my buddies rig for over a month now and drive it nearly every day. So I know a little how to drive these things and plus I am an avid off-roader too.

I'm in the same boat as you and I live in Vancouver. I agree with everyone else. From what I've read just buy the RTC kit and upgrade as the occasion requires. You'll get to know the strengths and weaknesses of your crawler better. I'm going to be ordering the AX10 RTC from CKRC at the end of the week unless anyone knows another place that has it in stock for $240?

I tried all the LHS around here and no one stocks that. One store had an ARTR and another store had the scaler SCX-10 Honcho.

I've been pretty discouraged by the LHS's around here. I haven't really ventured too much into Portland but I hear from the ORCRC guys that Tammies in Beaverton is good. It has to be better than Island Hobbies, those guys can hardly be bothered to stop surfing the internet to answer any questions.

Definatley. It is pretty sad that there isn't a lot of selection for Axial related products. CKRC seems pretty reputable though. That's where I am buying mine. Andrew at Axial actually sent me there.

One more advise, man.
Once u buy one upgrade, u will probably need another one to make it work properly lol
So, if u want buy a good servo, be sure that ur axles will handle it.
U can get a cheap one like turnigy (cost me 15 bucks), that can handle 200oz. this will be enough. No need to buy those monsters unless u have super 300 or else, otherwise you are risking to rip off the axle housing or snap the axles
As Juan said, drive first and then upgrade.
But if u have some extra money, spend them on the stuff, that improves the drivability first. And then, go with all that aluminum stuff, in case u need it.
And don't listen to guys saying "buy yourself another chassis first" - you will be thrown in the abyss of the endless upgrades and tunings and because you are not familiar with the stuff yet (means you have no parachute) your fall will be extremely long and painful
The stock chassis is decent enough, esp. if u do some mods to it. You will be surprised of how better it is.
