Default rear axle lockouts

I was out at my local hobby shops crawling course last week and met a guy that had put rear axle lockouts on his ax-10 from either a xr-10 or honcho, they were narrower than the ax-10 model lockouts. I dont know which they were but it sounded like a cool idea to have the rear end slightly narrower than they front. Has anyone done this or know which model lockouts I am talking about, do you think that it would work? Either way I need to get rid of the flimsy plastic knuckels and axle c's since I'm not going to have 4ws on my rig. Thanks in advance.

you would also have to have the rear axle shafts as well. If you find out what he was using, i would like to give it a try as well

Narrower lock outs won't change your track width, unless you cut your straight inner axles shorter. I would stick with the plastic lockouts. They are cheap and lighter than aluminum. If you want more strenght in the rear end you can throw some beef tubes in there. I have STRC inner axles with beef toobs and plastic lockouts.

If you want to run a wider offset in front you can always get some good rims with different offset hubs. A lot of guys like to run the rear with a little less offset. It can help when you are really close to a gate not to catch it with the rear tires.
