"Un-Official' Frogger Thread

Since the Frogger chassis ended production , and the original chassis thread is dead , I thought I 'd keep the dream alive with a thread on Frogger builds.

I know there will be heaps of them soon.

Chuck up your pics and specs, if your keen."thumbsup"

Stewbarus Frogger

When KC_Jones was in Perth last year, I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of an in-person giveaway, where Casey presented me with a black delrin Frogger chassis and black carbon fibre panels.

I have been assembling this new Pro class truck for about a month over Xmas and it has 'almost' come together. I have only to colour the roof and bonnet skin and I am done.

Meet my new truck, codenamed 'Stealth'.

After the first comp run, the 3-link decided it was p!ss weak and parted company with the truck. Only the lowers and MIP held it together.

Ratted out the parts box last night and found some old axial bent lowers, and thought "Why Not??".

The result is below. Great articulation and no binding.

Pretty sure this will pass the rock test.

Also in-boarded the rear shocks and dropped the rear chassis brace.

Sadly, my white frogger has seen its last days. He was a good lad.

I'm building up a pair Stew, one dig equipped and one not. I've not gone the mind blowingly expensive route. One - the non-dig one is running - still shaking it down but very happy. Biggest issue is the shock/link binding problem - getting there though - more Dremel work needed, Razors ordered - looking at trying your trick with the uppers too! Mine started life as a stock AX10 RTC - needless to say only the axle cases and transmission cases remain (and quite a few of the fixings)! It's come a long way in 10 weeks!

Spec:
Axial Axles - overdriven front, underdriven rear
Axial transmission, mirrored
Rooster 55 Motor
Venom skid (about to go)
Inboarded axial high clearance lower links
4 linked Axial upper links
3Racing Shafts
STRC extended servo plate
17kg Power HD Servo
Rooster ESC
Spektrum receiver
3Racing swing shafts
Hot Racing "c"s
Hot Racing knuckles
Stock Wheels (forgot about them) with 300g each Front, 100g rear
Rovers (white)
3Racing 124mm shocks - running semidroop - effectively limited to 110mm
Hot Racing variable rate springs, stiffer LR by one grade.

So far so good with it - I really like the Over/Under combination. Will post some photos as soon as the weather in England improves!

Has anyone come up with a way to attach the carbon fiber side panels that's better than zip ties?

Sorry rmb, I've used 1mm Lexan, drilled and tied it. I have inboarded it, oversized and cut away around the two cross members, so theoretically it could bolt it in - just too much hassle.

I have been experimenting with double sided tape and small tabs on the inside of the chassis, but it sets the CF panels back too much.

I just use black ties, small ones, and rotate the buckle inboard so its not seen."thumbsup", neatens it up a bit.

You 'could' drill the chassis and panel half half (like the sniper bullet weights) and screw/nut them on?

Similar, but much closer to the discontinued UGC Fastback chassis that was made for the AX10 ;-) Which in timeline was released before the Frogger.

Looking forward to seeing some frogs pop up here! Sad to see the old go, but knowing Casey he has something in the works :)

lol...I guess I never thought of it before, but it does look very similar

Like Richard said though, the Viper was intended to carry on the look of the Fastback. However I've always liked the looks of the Frogger, so some of it's influence must have been sitting in the back of my mind "thumbsup"

Looking forward to see what Casey does next.

STRC front 4-link plate
TCS rear 4-link plate
stock limited shocks
HR hubs and Axial knuckles

Here's a couple of shots of "Xeno*****" before she gets dirty tomorrow! (Looks like the automatic word detector doesn't like the Genus given to the African Tree Frog! - Think James Bond Movies but with only four legs!!

Shaken down indoors - very little torque twist. Need to move the drag link to the right hand knuckle. Need to work on front links/shocks as I can't bring the shock caps inside the body yet without binding on the lower links. Getting there though. The EEM skid should help but not put it on yet.

Will put a build thread together as this was really an exercise in bodyless on a budget - some people spend more on their front axle than I've put into ths project!
I'm not saying it won't end up there, there's a good reason why they're all beefed up - it just wasn't the driver for stage one!
