Non crawler ESC - XL5 Waterproof
 

Hey everyone.
A search didn't turn up the kind of info Im looking for. I recently took my stampede xl5 to brushless, meaning I have an XL5 waterproof ESC spare. I don't think the AX10 rtc's stock esc is very good, but I don't know much about them.

Since my ax10 is now using a 55turn motor (soon an Integy 75t), could I safely use my xl5 esc on my ax10? I don't want to fry anything, and I definitely don't want to use it if it will complicate the power delivery on the crawler.

Any advice on this matter would be super!

Nope will work fine.
The motor limit for an XL5 is 15t (12t 550).
So with a 75t it wont even raise a sweat.

Its going to be pitifully slow because of the 75t motor though.

That's great news. I hear you on pitifully slow, but isn't that what I want on a crawler? (I meant to put the esc into my crawler).
My AX10 rtc is a bit fast at the moment, and I would love SLOOOOW crawl torque :)
Otherwise Ill just get a 60t.

I know this is steering away from the primary topic, but is this a good idea? I find the stock axial esc a bit 'cheap'. And Im a NIMH 6 cell fan on my crawler. Considering that, 55 or 75t motor on the xl5 esc?

i would stick with 35-45 turn motors... sometimes you just need the wheel speed to help you get up and over "thumbsup"

X2-- and 35-45 turns have a good amount of torque, and if you want to go slow, go easy on the throttle. :lmao:

The only problem is the lack of drag brake, but you get used to it.
The plus of it is you can run a 7 or even 8 cell saddle pack.

I tried a 55 turn and found it too slow. 45 would be about right.

I don't know that I'd consider the XL-5 any higher quality than stock.

That said, you'll notice on your stock ESC, there's no delay for getting into reverse. With the XL-5 there is a double stab delay. If you're ever trying to crawl up a vertical rock face and the front tires come away from the surface, you'll wish you had that instant reverse. So you might want to see if you can hook up the motor wires backwards, and switch the direction on your transmitter to see if you can get it to work like stock. I switched my stock one around because I was used to the XL-5's, and wasn't very happy afterwards, it went back to stock.

One thing I love about this forum is the unbiased, honest advice. Tell it like it is, so thanks guys! you pointed out a few things I didn't realise, but on both sides.
Ill check it out on the huge rocks at the beach im going to this weekend, and try both esc's. The double stab might be a pain in the scrotanus.Shall see.

/me cancels 75t integy matrix v10 motor order.

Both esc's have a double pump, the axial motor wires come switched from the factory so that its instant reverse but double pump forward.

Good point. I didn't even realise. Ill try the xl5 with motor reversed (which I hope is ok for it).
