The foam is a home made 2 stage. And the wheels are some rpm crawler wheels, that I narowed up. Took off the part where the bead glues, on both sides, then glued them to the remaining part of the wheel. Overall, the wheel is an inch wide now. I have pics to post later.

Just waiting until I have all the pics ready, and confirm it works. I have done some floor testing, but I want to do another before I post up.

Without further adieu, I present the Frontside Jones tranny

Copy it if you like. All I ask is that you call it the Frontside Jones tranny, and remember who thought of it

The whole idea behind it, is to move the motor as forward as possible. And as you can see, it does just that. Hence, the name. Not to mention, the deep gearing.

I can do a detailed build thread if there is enough response, otherwise, it's real easy. All you use, is an XR10 tranny. Take the long final shaft, and put the larger gear, on the opposite side of the hole that would be retained by the e-clip. Then cut a new slit for it to safely sit on the other side. You use the side, that has the taper on it.

From there, you drill a hole big enough on the case, for the shaft to slide through the bearing. Cut the excess off the plate, and make an adapter wedge/plate to bolt down to the belly of your chassi.

The gear reduction in this is much lower than an AX10 trans. I think stock it is something like 14:1 with a 87/14. Using a 12t losi, I am at 27:1 at the output. The shaft is 5mm, just like an axial.

The pics aren't that great. But you get the idea. Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Enjoy

Glued the bearing in for now, so that it doesn't walk out.

Why wouldn't it hold up? It's not like it has plastic gears or aluminum outputs like the ax10

way to fabricate some cool shit man...

I have not seen an XR trans up close before and for sure haven't seen the inside of one.

I would be interested in seeing more on the build of it.

Does axial even sell the transmission by itself?

The ax10 was out for a long time before they sold whole parts individually.

Just putting around on the floor. I am hoping to have it finished by the middle of next week, and do some testing at the quary down the road.

No, but you can buy all the parts by themselves
