Default Le Margouillat.

Hello,

Following the Matoutou project, I started to work on a new frame. A narrower and lighter frame, with a home-made tranny. After having to test this frame with axle of my AX-10 and my Wheely-king, I decided to begin a new project : Le Margouillat.

The front axle :
  • Axial Axle Housings
  • Axial Racing Aluminum C Hub Carrier for AX10 Scorpion #AX30495
  • EGRESSor knuckles and EGRESSor knuckles weights
  • Super 300 Axial CVD's for Axial AX10
  • Axial Racing Optional Ratio Gear Set 36/14 for Axial AX10 Scorpion #AX30401
  • HPI Two Rear Shock Set 77-117mm RS4 Mt 2 Kit HPIA710
  • TCS Internal Shock Springs for Axial AX10 Scorpion - Medium Strength
  • Gunnar *beef* toobs
  • Servo Hitec 7950 TH

Assembly of the front axle

C-hub with +20° caster

4 links and the support of servo

Nothing rubs

I have the classic issue with bearing. I took the advice of SDSCustumZ and I removed the bearing.
I have to modify and drill the Gunnar *beef* toobs to move them of 4mm.

The new inox steering arm

The front axle complete

The rear axle
  • Axial Axle Housings
  • Axial Heavy Duty Bevel Gear Set 43T/13T (coming soon )
  • EGRESSor spool
  • Ax30494 Axial Aluminum Rear Axle Lock-out
  • AX30421 Straight Axle 6x104 50mm
  • Traxxas big bore Shock #2660

The rear 4 links

For the moment I use the silver Losi Rear Shock Springs Mini-T LOSB1119 , I think that the green or pink would be adapted more. Even with the silver springs, I have very little torque-twist. Le Margouillat can climb the test board inclined to 75°, it is good sign.

Electro
  • Micro SideWinder
  • CC bec
  • TeamBrood Creep Type HHK-R 45T (coming soon)

Some pic of complet rig

The final weight?? less than 5Lbrs - under 2.200kg RTR
But, after some test, it will be necessary that I add 100g to the rear…

To follow...

The first proto

R2 from RC4WD for parts.

And assembly of the R2V2

lightening of the parts to the milling machine

I drill the gear

The dig

On the pic, the notches for the dig are not made yet in the stainless plate.

Ax-10 trans (full plastic w/o dig) 86g
R2 with dig : 125g
the R2V2 with dig : 95g

R2 made 7cm in width, the R2V2 makes 1 cm less, that is to say 6cm

The R2V2 is mirrored compared to R2.

On the frame

The output shaft is placed 9mm low than on traditional tranny. That makes it possible to lower still a little the centre of gravity (the driveshafts are heavy…). But that with returned installations of the lower links are complicated

After the first test, this rig work very well, but still many adjustments require. 300 shaft gives him a diabolic steering

Thanks,

For rear driveshaft, some pic during construction (on the pic, the nose of axle is a little too high, since I lowered it a little)

The ground clearence is good, 3” (75mm) in front of the frame and 3.15" ( 85mm) in rear. I have 3.54" (90mm) under the rear links

Big thanks for your comments

That was a very ambitious, and rather complicated project. For the moment, I am satisfied with the result (especially because it functions ), the machine functions rather very well (mainly transmission and the dig). Now, there remains a long moment of adjustments...

I'm constantly floored by the high quality work the members of this site put out. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the inspiration! I love your upper link mounts, I'm absolutely going to steal your rear upper axle mount. It's already been drawn in sharpie on a cutting board.

When I first looked at this thing, it reminded me of something. And i've been pulling my hair out trying to figure it out.

Then I finally remembered.

The tank from the video game "Metal Slug"

Then I realized it doesn't really look like it. But I think the very mechanical nature and look of your rig still seems plausible.

But then I remembered this is not the tank I was thinking of. The tank I'm thinking of is from a video game, but it had wheels on legs. Theis tank could use it's legged wheels to jump, and also it could aim it's turret straight up. Unfortunately, for the life of me, i can't remember the name of the game. Pretty sure it was on super nintendo though.

I cannot for the life of me, remember the name of teh video game....

That was a good little manga.

There is just somethig so mechanical and beautiful about Le Margouillat.

What does it mean?

I am a draughtsman, and I surely looked at too many manga being young

Today, I worked a little on foams and add 100g on the rear. I use foams Ci with a traditional set-up :
Front : Medium inner and software outer
Rear: Firm inner and Medium outer.

But Margouillat being rather light, I have to re-examine the set-up. The rig tended a little too to hop and motricity seemed to me perfectible (motricity is always perfectible ).
With foams available, I chose for the rear : Soft inner and soft outer. Probably of the medium inner would have been better, but I had only that… The first test seems interesting, a little less rebound with the rear and the behavior in side-hill good remainder. But is still to test.

Hello,

Today, I received my motor, a TEAM Brood Creep Type HHK-R 45T. That to say, if not that they are impressive
As always, torque, wheelspeed...

I also shaved the tires. It is an interesting configuration

And the first test of panels on the frame.
