Took the truck out today for a battery pack of shakedown at the Superlift ORV park in Hot Springs. Worked awesome. No stall issues with the motor and 10t pinion. Good low end with great mid-top end wheel speed. Ran for 6 minutes and the motor was warm, not even close to hot. Probably going to have to limit the front shocks a little more and put some weight in the front wheels. None in the fronts right now. Truck is sitting at 5lbs even right now. Went with 20wt shock oil all around and the shock pistons that come with the big bores. Everything seemed to work good together. I have never been a huge fan of Sedona's so, these might get replaced with rovers or pins. No pictures or video. Last edited by Szczerba; 12-11-2011 at 08:22 PM. |

Got Version 3 of the CrawlerInnovations prototype closed cell inner foam mounted on Sedona's for the shafty rig. Just got a GoPro Hero 2, so sorry for the weird and low light pictures. Testing it out. I have been running V1's and V2's in my berg comp rig with Khaos-Rovers since July. Bead area on foams have been step cut for bead seating. Breather holes drilled with 1/4" drill bit. I vent the wheels and foams. Some will vent the tires. These are 1.5" wide and meant for a 5.5" tall tire and 1" wheel. There will be various widths and heights. I run 1.75" wide prototype inners on 1.25" wheels on the comp berg. Closed cell inners and soft outers only up front Closed cell inners and medium outer with medium outer tuning ring out back 5lb weight on front tire to show support Couple notes. Prototype closed cell inners offer more consistent "inner support" than narrow "disc" plastic wheel supports. Full support across the wheel surface. Less bounce normal inner foams. Almost zero bounce with these. More consistent outer tuning foam setups, i.e. the firm inner allows for quicker feedback when changing outer foam and outer tuning rings. That make sense? Kinda tough to explain, I guess. Forward traction seems to be increased as well. Last edited by Szczerba; 12-15-2011 at 09:04 PM. |

So those foams are dense enough to require their own breather hole? Have you had and problems with the foam rotating and blocking the wheel vent?

I vent my wheels not the tires, so I have to vent the inner foams too. Some guys can just vent the tires and be done with it. No slipping. The foam fits snugly around the SLW wheels. Its tough to move them on the wheel if the holes don't line up at first! But the SLW's are channeled to reduce weight on the outer surface (see first pictures, if not familiar with SLW). So, if the foam did move the setup would still "breathe". But I haven't experienced them moving at all with SLW's.

You wouldn't believe how much of the "bounce" is taken out of the tire/wheel/foam system with these inner foams. In addition to supporting the foam/tire the full width of the wheel. The front tire "squishes down" more to the inner foam than pictured. Picture just doesn't show it real well.

Clapped up some rovers today. I'll be taking this rig to Northern Cali (Susanville) for the next 9 days. Should be able to get some wheel time. Same foams as before. Added some weight to the front wheels. Fronts weigh, total each : 8 oz, plus the 4oz in knuckle weights Rears weigh, total each: 5.75 oz Last edited by Szczerba; 12-18-2011 at 08:45 PM. |

| Re: Szczerba's FF-SZ built Clapped them, you know "Clappy's", "El Clapp-O's" and the like. Sanded off the side lugs, been done before. Ultra soft and supple now. I got a little thin in some spots but just used some rubberized CA to fill it back in . |

| Re: Szczerba's FF-SZ built I clapped the Sedona's and it really helped them soften up and be able to flex more. They have some big honkin' side lugs that stiffen the tire up. Never ran clapped rovers. Seen several sets at Nationals this year too. Updated above post with pictures from my regular camera. I blitzed through the clapping process. Wanted to get them done fast before I leave town in 2 days. |

You know, I always liked the Cougar sidewalls. Never seemed to lack sticktion even though they were smooth. I imagine it'd be best to have some of those super stiff inners with clapped Rovers... |
