I actually run a bone stock trans in my sporty. However, I still run 'pede plastic drive shafts which help absorb some of the torque that would normally destroy stock gears or outputs.

I'll be running metal driveshafts on this rig, so I better stick with all metal gears. I have them sitting on my work table, I just need the tranny to show up from TCS so I can get it built.

I'm all about some trannies. I just had one in my hands last night! It was an old one, though. Now I just need my beefy shafts and my shiny new tranny in the same room so they can start working together.

More loot showed up! I'm going to give the JunFac shafts a try and the tranny gears are from Robinson (thanks Rootar!). I used Hair & Grease drain cleaner from Home Depot to strip the anodized parts. I think that this stuff works better than Easy Off.

I had this motor as a backup for my berg but for the time being I'm going to use it for this build. It's a 35t Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Pro Handwound. I chose the 4mm web 3 slot armature for more power and rpms.

Good luck with those Junfacs.....I broke a few of them and the pins fell out of them on a regular basis.

A little ring of adhesive heat shrink wrap keeps those pins in check.

Broke one recently as well, and they always seemed to walk to one side or the other.

I'll give that a try once they go on the scaler. I like the smaller diameter, but MIP's are ready to go on the Sporty soon.

as long as you dont have alot of droop you'll be fine on the jun-facs driveshafts.
keep them greased, heatshrink around the shaft to keep it in,and loctite the screws, and clean and oil them before running and they'll keep up.

i had them on my foff rig and its running full droop.
because of the halfmoon design it binds up on 1 side when the suspension falls out..

o.m.g. you are so slooooooowwww...

I ran the exact same set-up last season, Bone stock tranny, Pede shafts with metal universals, 37t Checkpoint single, and 3 and 4S bats. I did have a shaft fail but it was several years old.

I couldn't agree more, my rig is sub four and a half pounds and the weight is low, wheel and knuckle locations.

Man that's a great looking rig!!! I always lime building my own stuff like this also back when I had the WK.
Got me thinking about all that spare Delrin I got laying around at the house!!
If you want to run it when I'm home I will shoot some pics and video for ya.

I need to get my crap together and get a scaler or something running soon!

I use the heavy duty thick walled stuff. Its scuffed and beat up pretty good, but its still holding.

I let my front shaft bind at full extension and it's done nothing but shake the rig a little bit when it's high centered. I know it's probably not good for my tranny but I don't enjoy it as much when it doesn't shake!

People are so quick to go to metal shafts. Sure they're stronger, but they are sure to point out all of your weak links. With over/under gearing, I feel it needs something to absorb the shock/torque.
Mine aren't exactly just a stock 'pede shaft, though. I use two female and one male shaft to make each shaft. I cut the end off of the male shaft and CA it into a shortened female shaft. That way, there is only a small amount of exposed male shaft. This eliminated any twisting of the male shaft.
Wow, between Ashton liking the trannies and me manipulating my male shaft, this thread is going down hill quickly!

I ran pede shafts back in my dig shafty days and they were a pain then. I've also had them on my YJ and they are still a pain. Why can't you guys just let me break some shit?
