| GC3A V2.0 (project: monster steering)
After running a Gatekeeper for a long time I had to build another one, my old one was getting a little beat up (skid, end links ect..) and I decided to start a fresh sporty build. My main attention to detail in this build was to perfect a steering set-up I was messing around with on my old rig and also to try and loose a bit of wieght (didn't end up making a huge dent). The only things carried over from my original GC3A is the axle housings and rear shocks. Here's a quick list of the goodies. Gatekeeper GC3A chassis (with delrin spacers) Axial trans stuffed with RRP gears (solid diff but drilled for weight loss) MIP shafts (may switch to Junfac to save some weight) Highland Crawlers fr. spool / Felsenfest rear Beef tubes (rears swiss cheesed to once again save weight) OD/UD gears XR10 universal, chubs, knuckles Chris the Battery man modded universals One off servo plate to hole a 7980 Holmes 45t Handwound, FXR, 7980, CC Bec DH1's, Rovers, CI DD's (will be narrowing the DH's) Ect, ect, ect... Shot with my old body but I've got a bug that I need to paint. Steering capability so far, although I know there is a few more degrees with some more grinding Servo mount and electronics In this picture you can see I drilled out the rear link mount, drilled out the top of the chassis and also the delrin spacers. I just got the BEC wired into the servo tonight and got everything hooked up, hopefully I can give it a maiden voyage tomorrow. |

Another steering shot. I can't wait to try this out, I had a CS170 with my old set-up and the leverage given by the long servo arm is amazing. I was never able to stall even the CS170, so I'll have to be careful I don't rip stuff apart with effortless steering and 600 oz. of power. |

Technically, the longer the servo horn, the harder the servo works. For the greatest mechanical advantage, the servo horn has to be short, and the steering arm (in the knuckle) should be long. Pretty slick looking setup though |

| Re: GC3A V2.0 (project: monster steering) He is right. That longer arm makes the servo work harder. At the same time it may not be an issue with the 7980. It has power to spare.

Well that plastic servo arm is a little long, I will probably be setting the steering link about the 3rd or 4th hole back. Another positive with this set-up is the amount of throw you get from the servo and when the link is mounted below the arm it is almost a straight shot to the arm on the knuckles. I thought I may get to run it today but looks like it will have to wait until tomorrow, my only concern is the light front springs. I may have to order more mini-t's since my Bully has stolen the firmer springs. BTW, that drag link is my old one that was one my other GC3A. I am working on something OTA so the drag link and servo link will run on top of one another, I'll take pics because I suck at explaining things LOL. Yep, the longer the servo arm, the harder the servo has to work. | ||

You are going to need a beefier HD aluminum horn as the massive power from you new servo will strip that astir one in the first hard bind the front tires get in. If I were you, I would rotate the servo 180* & get a long Robi style servo horn (pointing forward) and then go to a BTA setup. |

The plastic horn is for mock up only, and the drag link is an old one. I will be making a new drag link that will be more of a ota set up. Also the servo horn I will be using is not as long as the one on there now.

Well she is currently to porky for my liking, with the 4 weights out of the rear wheels she weighed in at a downright fat 6.07lbs. with the battery. I am not happy with that, I'm going to be looking for more weight loss in the next few days.
