AX10 Drive Shaft Rebuild Rings

I see there are some drive shaft rebuild rings offered as aftermarket. Are "2" or "4" sets needed for each drive shaft. Is the purpose to keep the U-Joint from comming apart? Where exactally do these rings go, and are they necessary? Thanks John
