Default TC's "Old School" Sportsman Build

I figured a thread would motivate me to get this build together. I'll be honest and say that my AX10 has always been a thorn in my side. I've had a GC3A, T1E moonbuggy, and BWD SSS-R on these axles. All have ended with issues. So I'm going back to the set up I was most happy with, Gatekeepers'. This time I'll be running his second generation chassis that I won this summer at Rocas Rojos.

I know this is nothing new or ground breaking, but I really enjoy putting up a thread so, thats what I plan to do!

Chassis:

GC-2
Custom bent Lunsford Ti links
Big Bores with shock end caps
Mini-T Springs

Transmission: HEAVY Full metal

VP case
Full Robinson Racing Gears
HR Spur
BWD Motor Plate
BWD Electronics Tray
MIP Shafts

Axles:

Front: Long BEEF TOOBS, VP XR chubs & knuckles, XR universals, custom Ti BTA tie rod, Custom Carbon fiber battery/servo tray.

Under/Over Drive

Rear: No beef tubs, HR Shafts and lockouts.

Tires:

I've got a set of Crawler Innovations Khaos and some Sedonas I think I'll mash. Running Crawler Innovations production closed cells as soon as then come out.

Electronics:

Holmes Hobbies 35T Pro handwound
FXR Pro w/ 4 cell over kill capacitor
Hitec 7950TH wired directly to BEC @ 7.4v
Micro Deans
800mha 3 cells

Almost sold this transmission. Thought better of it.

Rear end:

Loaded up: I'm also running BWD's electronics tray and motor plate.

A nice hodge podge.

I loved my GC-2 drove successfully for two years it was a solid performer. Three's something about the Delrin version that makes the GC-3 the best of it's production history IMO.

BWD puts out some great stuff! I may be ditching this set up in favor of a front tray mount. I just need to find the time to cut it out.

Thanks! My GC3A was a solid performer so I anticipate this one working just as well. I scraped that set up at the time for my XR10. Should have never sold that set up but oh well, this one will certainly be more unique. This is the GC-2 correct? I like the delrin but I may be adding some CF braces to stiffen it up.

Just waiting on the delivery man. . . Orders placed with Lunsford for the links, biggin69 for the long TOOBs, highlander for the Aluminum locker and Crawler Innovations for the Knuckles, chubs, universals, and some hardware (though to save postage, I may wait a bit longer for CI to ship so he can include some of those production foams).

Front axle tray cut and mounted shiny side down. Waiting on those beef toobs.

I'll shorten wires when the crawler is in one piece.

***CORRECTION: This has been the best way I've found to wire a a servo. BEC red to servo red, BEC brown to servo black. Plug the servo yellow into the proper RX spot and the red and black from the BEC into the battery leads.

They were just released last night! I will post a review as soon as I get them in hand. I'm hoping to bend some Ti and cut some tires tonight. We'll see how it goes.

No longer beef tubes out back? What widths you going to run? All the electronics up front looks good. And that's how I started wiring all my servos last year. Best way to do it in my opinion.

I ordered some more new closed cell foams from Crawler Innovations yesterday cause I know they will go quick! 5.5" and 6.0" sets are ready.

No longer tubes out back. I want to be able to switch my wheels and tires directly from my XR to this truck and since I already run a wider hub on the rear wheels, it should be close enough to make this work. The HR rear shafts are slightly wider than stock already anyways.

I too ordered a set of the 5.5s variety from CI, Can't wait to see the production version!

In other news, I just got off the phone with Vanquish and I'm going to be doing something a little different for link mounts on this truck! Give me a few days to get the parts in (Louisiana is sometimes as long as a week for mail. . . ) and I'll post pics. Very excited about this build!

This doesn't make sense to me. Arent the red and black wires on the bec where it gets it's power and ground from? It's input voltage? And the servo plug coming off the other side is the output of power? Which means it is hooked up backwards?

I always connect the red and black to my battery source, and solder on a female servo plug to the other end. Then on the servo, I remove the sensor wire from the male servo plug and place it in it's own male plug. I then plug the sensor wire into the receiver, and the other two into the bec.

Hope that's clear I can get a pic.

Yah, looks backwards. I was viewing on my phone.
I just assumed it was the servo getting direct power from the BEC and the servo signal wire (added jst plug) into the rx.

Just "swap around" your BEC,, TC.
