Default Diesel's AX10 1.9 rock racer "El Tortuga Rapido" (update post #41)

Ok, so I've been working on a Sportsman class tuber for a few weeks now and i think I'm far enough along in the build to have gotten past my build thread curse. (every time i start a build thread when i start a build, it gets scrapped for parts.) it's pretty much a roller now, just waiting on orders from RPP and TCS to finish the front suspension and axle. oh and tortuga is turtle in spanish, i don't speak spanish, i just like the word. my very first crawler back in '05 was a TXT super rig that i called TXTurtle so i figured this was fitting...

I designed and built the tube chassis in my garage, i drew up a basic idea and just kinda winged it from there. i'm happy with the looks now that all the brazing is done. not every joint is perfect but its square. i just did the shock mounts today. i reused an old K2-5 skid plate, i might swap for one with more triangulation later. like i said overall i'm happy with how it's looking.

specs:
ax10 axles
beef toobs with lots of caster
OD gears up front
UD gears out back
axial HD lockers
aluminum lockouts
aluminum C-hubs
vanquish zero ackerman knuckles (on the way from TCS)
stock dogbones/modded cups
straight rear shafts
BWD rear 4 link plate
steel yoked 'pede shafts
bender customs front 4 link plate (on the way from RPP)
Mayhem Eng Evolution wheels
white dot rovers
castle sidewinder ESC
castle BEC
spektrum rx
35t cheapo motor
shocks are SCX10s for now, fronts are limited to 75mm. probably end up running big bores

anyway enough BS.

bare chassis before finishing

grooved the ends of the skid and screwed straight through the tube to attach it.

not bad for modded stock axle shafts

love that caster

The front 4 like plate and some misc hardware showed up today, the knuckles will probably be in tomorrow, just in time to make it a roller for the weekend. ( my weekend starts wednesday morning)

Lol as soon as it's a roller and I like the suspension geometry that'll happen.

You gotta run a 75t motor in this thing.

Hey that's a comp truck, I thought you said you were a scale guy?

Looks promising man.

Don't be to hard on the bodiless rigs, I had reservations till I tried one.

i needed to build something and sportsman sounded fun.

i'm sure the goofy looking plastic wannabe tubers drive really well, they wouldnt be so popular otherwise. i just think they look retarded. i've always had the most respect for guys that compete with tubers but until just last year, didnt know how to build them.

Did a little work on tortuga today, mounted the trans and drivelines and brazed a tab onto the tie rod to attach a drag link. Also got the battery mounting figured out. Just need a servo arm, esc and panels now.

The battery will hide under the hood.

5yr old TLT parts on the steering. Keeping it real.

Looks great man, did you use hollow tubing for the tie rod or did you sleeve some threaded rod?
