I thought I should start a build thread so I can get some advice here at RCC :mrgreen:.

This is a new build with a old school chassis. I am not sure how well it will crawl but I enjoy the process of building a crawler....

Ok, here is the part list:

Front axle
* XR10 mod;
* Topcad Wraith chub;
* Hulksta Engineering Brass longer beef tube;
* OD diff gear;
* VP battery and Servo 4 links plate;

Rear Axle
* Some Ali adaptor bought from ebay;
* UD diff gear;
* Bender 4 links plate with my own modification;

Suspension and links
* Traxxas e-maxx bigbore shock with rod end mod;
* Mini-T spring and Jeepingdoug spring cup all round;
* Home made 8mm lower delrin link and 6mm Ali upper link;

Chassis and Trans
* Mayhem LS2.0 Chassis;
* Mirrored Trans with Robinson Racing idler and final drive gear;
* Junfac drive shaft with Gunnar Pins;

Body and Tyre
* Jconcept Gate Crasher body;
* Gunnar body mount;
* Vp SLW V1 with Rover and CI 2 stage foam;

Electricals
* HH Torque Master 45T;
* CC Sidewinder SV2;
* Hitec HS7954SH servo with CC BEC at 7.4V;
* Turnigy 1.0Ah 3s Lipo;
* Spektrum DX3C Tx;

The whole rig weigh 2.2kg (or 4.84 lb) without the knuckle weight.

Looks pretty good. I wouldn't consider that chassis "old school" quite yet. Maybe in another year:mrgreen:

Good parts collection on it. Only thing I would do is try to slam the body more & move the uppers to the outside ofthe chassis plate for a bit more triangulation.

And I would think you could get 45* of steering easy, so I don't know if it's just the camera angle or something you should look into.

Ive been running this chassis for the past year with a bunch of wins against t1e gc3 losi and other trucks liked it a lot but have recently moved on to an older chassis haha

Yeah, I wanted to lower the body a bit more but the front shock tower is in the way, so either I cut a hole on the body or shorten the tower (lay the shock down a bit). I have not deceided which way to go yet.

The steering is ok on the outside wheel but the inside one is less than impressive. That is partly because the knuckle is not Zero Anckerman. I have now Vp knuckle which should improve the inner wheel steering. Also the Uni joint need to meet my grinder to gain a bit more steering too :evil:.

I am experimenting a semi droop shock, using my SCX10 shock and hopefully will lower the CG a tad.

They are rc4wd offset one, I mainly use them for tie rod or lower link to give a bit more clearence. I used it on the shock because is te only long rodend I have.

Btw vp knuckle is in, and steering is great (photo to come), so much so, I can't fit 1000mah battery and has to revert back to 850mah battery and make a new 4link plate. A bit more tuning on Wednesday, I will be ready for Sat debut.

Nice bit of clocking on the front axle. You will have to keep an eye on the battery mounted like that though, it may be prone to catching on the rocks.

Its been a while since I update this thread. There were few alternations made to the rig.

1. Shock changed from Traxxas 2662 to 2660 with rodend mod. The rear shock uses some longer rodend and Vp razer to gain the slightly rake skid that I am after. The rig now sit a bit lower. Both front and back are running Mini T red spring.

2. Steering Servo changes to 7950th, so much power. Not that the previous 7954sh is weak, but 7950 is just way better. I bought a Vp servo armour to protect it too. Both were scored in RCC clasifield.

3. A BWD motor saver to protect my HH 45T.

4. Alloy rear lock out from a thailand seller in ebay. Pretty cheap, $17-18 posted to Australia. "thumbsup"

5. ESC changed to HH BR-XL, much smoother control at low end. And the "holme hold" feature allow me to tune down the drag brake, so in deep decline, you have more control without fliping the truck over. :twisted:

6. Dlux knuckle weight. With 1/2" additional ring on it. I have not played with the weight, just whacked all I have on it.

Thats about it. It performed really well, I have won the last 2 comps in Western Australia and is leading the ladder in the CANZ West Swan Too SPM series at the moment (after 3 rounds). We just had the 4th round and I am in contention with the win as well (official result not out yet).

I still have a few things to fit on the rig, 2x highlander XHD locker (steel in front and Aluminium at the rear), MIP drive shaft (the Junfrac one have too much slop). I will also lengthen the wheel base to 12.5" (or 317mm) currently it sit at 290mm. That should help me scoring some bouns gate...:oops:

I have been playing with links for the lengthen wheel base and found that the Vp Wraith Ti Upper link seems perfect for my Lower Rear link. Will try it out with the Al link I got from TCS first before I committed to Ti link.

Another concern is the weight of the rig, it weigh 2.4 kg (5lb 4.6oz), it propably need to go on a diet (like the owner) to loose some weight.:lmao:

Also recently I have been hooked with chassis that have rake skid and more laydown shock position. I am looking at BWD Wedge Low Pro and Evil Crawler Design "ringer" at the moment. Will choose one for 2013 series....

Nice driving on the week end Dave. Your rig is definitely performing.

You just need a body that allows you to recover from a roll over now.

That is saved for my new chassis...... For the time being, I cant afford rollover cause there is no way to recover using the existing body....
